    Bring on the good weather!

Could not agree more - enough of winter already :)
  • After working 20 hours over the weekend to name sure I ateast break even for this month. The weather is slowly improving and rain getting warmer....the light mornings and nights will be here before we know it. I'm well on board the savings game this year need to get steady progress and blitz it June,July and August which will probably see me save half my target in that 3 months.

Wow, I take it the summer months mean that you can earn more YB? Sounds great!

We're slowly but surely heading towards our target. It feels like we haven't saved much for a while, but that's because the start of the month is better for us than the end- until we get paid of course!

Husband is still owed around £500 in money from homers, which he'll be collecting soon (once he completes the finishing touches of the job which requires him waiting on other trades doing their bit first). That'll be a nice boost on too of what we're already hoping to save in march.
    CC1: £4481.14/ £5031.14 (12% paid off, £600) | CC2:£3307/ £3807 (14.4% paid off, £550) | Loan: £10,528.20/ £15,792.30((33% paid off, £5,264))

July debt total: £24,630.44 | New debt total: £18,316.34 | Total debt paid: £6,414.10 (26%)

  • I've just set a spreadsheet up to work out approximately how much I would have saved by now, had I saved 10% and 25% of my net salary since I started work (I'm 56). Just a basic 5% compounded, not accounting for tax relief of AVCs, stocks & shares etc.

Conservatively. I would have had approx £135,000 and £435,000:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I am horrified and can't believe how much money I must have squandered, even allowing for years where money was tight with a big new mortgage. Too late to be able to do anything about it now, except to hope for a big premium bond win (I've made a start, I won £25 last month:rotfl:)

So all you good people with more working years ahead of you; keep saving and don't be like me!!

WOW!! Thanks for sharing this..!!

This kind of post really is SO inspirational... I'm 26 and in a decent paid job that I absolutely love. I have another 31 (hopefully!) years service left in my job. So, just thinking about what I could potentially save without even missing it is hugely motivating!!

Looking forward to payday and stashing the savings for March!! Well done to everyone on progress so far - the thread makes a great read! X

I've been very quiet on the thread so far due to such a busy start to the year. Turned 30 earlier this month and got engaged!!!

I've managed to do well with the savings, largely due to it being bonus time at work. I'm up to £1900 so far for the year!

Luckily my OH is great with saving too so we already have a plan in place to pay for the wedding and have set up an additional regular saver of £100pcm each to cover the honeymoon. Roll on next July for the big day!

Well done to everyone else so far. For any newbies, I can reassure you that at some point saving will just become a learnt behaviour. If you can set up regular savers and treat them like a bill, it soon adds up!

OK, at this point I'm going to declare cos I don't reckon I'll have anything further for the month, so my savings for Feb are £1,612. :) March will be harder, but I only need £388 to keep up to speed and that's got to be doable. :)
  • I'd like to join. Getting married next year so 12k it is :D I'm on 2k already.

I had to spend money this month, I'm totally gutted but I was advised that if I didn't then I would have to pay a financial penalty. I'm really struggling with life atm, I seem to be taking one step forward, 2 steps back. It's really getting me down :(
    £20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**

I'm declaring £500 for Feb (spreadsheet updated). Would have liked more but an expensive vet bill has set me back this month. It wasn't anything I could have helped so not beating myself up about it too much...
    Finally bought a home
