Hi there, can you put me down for 35,000? I'm on a mission this year!! I put 1400 in my nationwide savings this morning and am expecting a refund of 800 later in the month which I will duly transfer... Behind schedule already though, ick!
I'm trying to remember to pay my future self first!

Are you saying put £5k, for instance, away and that it should still be there at the end of the year? Obviously you cannot make anything much in interest.

You can get 5% AER on £2500 at Nationwide, and 4% AER on a further £3000 at Clydesdale or Yorkshire Bank. Then 3% from various others. All current accounts, all have conditions which most people can meet easily, all have threads discussing them in great detail.

I was a bit (understatement) dubious about changing my bank but am getting more penny conscious in retirement so opened a 1 2 3 account in June. I keep just enough in there to earn the top, 3%, interest and it pays all my dd's. Just had an on line statement telling me that in the last 6/7 months I've earned £144 interest after the monthly £2 fee. Very happy with that, I think I did the right thing and it's more to add to the £3k pot :)
  • I've just set up a standing order for £100 pm premium bonds as part of my saving regime. Interest rates are so low that I thought it is worth a punt, and you never know, I could win a big prize !

(though on past experience I should be due for 25 quid every 30 years!:D)

Hahaha - I've just won £25, the first winnings I've had for years! :j Maybe my new standing order has made Ernie shake the numbers up a bit.

How's everyone doing? I've not put anything in savings yet - forgot it was car insurance month :wall: so not sure what we'll manage this month....
