Been missing in action I'm afraid. Had a really spendy month in august and got a little bit depressed using my savings to buy a computer. Does anyone else find that they have problems using their savings?

    :hello:Yes, me!

Earlier this year I realised I was going to easily achieve my target for a change and also knew I had a number of expenses coming up, so I decided to use a 'spare' savings account to start saving a side kitty to use for exactly that kind of expense so that I wouldn't have to dip into my ISA and feel guilty about it.

I had to chastise myself only a couple of nights ago because I've just had the car service done, have the dentist in 2 weeks and am booking my holiday (only one I'll have had for 2014) this coming weekend. That will pretty much bleed the 'spare' account dry and I was feeling bad about this! Why?! I've only been stashing money into that account for a few short months so it will only take around 3 months to get back to where I was and it is/was being used for all the things I purposefully intended to use that money for!! I suspect it's because I'll be draining it so close to being empty though and that I wouldn't feel as bad if I had a larger 'cushion' left behind.

Spreadsheet updated :) we've nudged over the £800,000 mark which is exciting :j and hopefully lots more August updates still to come!

Oh wow, it'll be so exciting if we can get to £1 million!!! :T

Unfortunately my DH thinks money should be spent and not saved. He would be looking at buying luxury cars with the money whereas I would rather have the cash sitting in my savings account. I am working on him though ... :D!

September is already a bit of a headache as our granddaughter will be staying at ours 2 days a week while our DD works, so we've had to buy some books and toys, a high chair and a car seat.

So managed £221.80 in August which is good considering but that £6000 target is still far away. Never mind, what ever the amount it's still something.

Could your daughter/son-in-law buy these essentials, or at least contribute towards them?

Oh and yes, I find it VERY hard to dip into my savings! I treated myself to a few new clothes last week, but nothing too expensive. I guess it's hard to 'fritter away' what I've worked so hard to save on stuff that I don't really need!

OTOH, I don't mind spending money on socialising and trips away - I see that as a pleasurable thing, and that's what life is all about. :)

Not sure if it's to do with smashing the £80K barrier, but I definitely feel more motivated at the moment - hurry up pay day!!! :D Also, I'm due interest on my Santander Home Saver next week, woo hoo

  • It looks like I'll be sticking at £12,000 for September. I've got a reasonably expensive item to buy and even though it counts as a long-term investment, I don't think I can quite justify pretending it's a liquid asset.

And I may be going back to university to study for an MA part-time and that will set me back nearly £10,000 over three years, which isn't ideal, but it'll open up a whole new career path for me in addition to my current one so I think it's worth it.

    best and funniest post ever!
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j
  • Not had a great start this year, but it have finally managed to save my first £1000 and it feels so great. Don't think I will manage to save my £5000 target, may manage to get £2500 but every penny counts.

Sorry that I've been really rubbish the past couple months. I'm just going to update my totals for July and August now.

I've only put £100 in my savings in July - we went on holiday for a week so most of what would have gone in my savings was spent on spending money. We had a great time though and I still put £100 away, so better than nothing.

August was a tough month for me too - car tax and insurance due (I pay annually). £150 put in to savings.

I'm hoping to up it again by the end of September. Will do my best. Seems like everything I need to pay out on is all coming round at once!
