I was saying on another thread - I haven't told any of my family and friends how much I've saved, I don't know why. Perhaps it's because I know that some of them aren't too good financially, and I don't want them to think that I'm rubbing it in.
Is anyone else in the same situation? Or, if you do tell friends and family how much you've saved, how do they react?
With the exception of maybe 1 or 2, I share the minimum information possible with my friends/family. They all know that I'm managing to save a little for the first time in my life and that I have a little bit stashed away, but I don't divulge how much this is. For those who do know more detail than others, they know that the only reason I have a stash the size that I do, and that I'm able to continue saving, is because of my Dad passing away a couple of years ago. I'd take having my Dad back in preference to having the money!
Why do I share so little? For some it's about not wanting to rub it in, for some it's about a fear of appearing tight-fisted for someone who has a little bit of money tucked away and for others it's a fear that it would be taken advantage of, e.g. there's a close family member who is absolutely terrible at a) holding on to money and b) sticking with a job for any length of time. They're close enough family that I'm obliged to help them out in times of need, and I continue to do so because so far they've been good at paying me back, but I don't want to make it too easy for them as I'm worried they might take advantage and will risk digging themselves a deeper hole.£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

My close family is my parents, my sis and Little Miss Gap. They all know I have savings. I don't think they know exactly how much (LMG does but she has probably forgotten as she gets a bit bored when I get on my high horse about money matters) but they know roughly. No one else knows that I have savings. When I hit rock bottom in 2007 I had less than nothing. I have worked so hard to get from there to where I am today. I have been so tight over the years trying to pay off debt and then trying to build up the savings. I think I don't want to tell as they have been so understanding when I have said I couldn't afford things, that they would probably be shocked at the level of savings that I have.JustinCredibleGillespie wrote: »GAP I will put you out of your misery the business is JuicePlus.

Hello, well I think I know where I'm at now following car accident and holidays and weddings! No more weddings for a while, although we might get a wee cheap holiday in October time!! Prior to pay day...we have £4491.71 my money and £1595.59 joint money. Hoping to keep building into autumn and reach my £10,000 total by the end of the year.Save 12k in 2014 (my target: £10 000):
My savings: £4878.54/£7000
Joint account savings: £2685.57/£3000

Declared £625 for August so now up to £5,800 saved this year.
I've continued with the strategy of paying myself first and committing to saving £625 like its a bill. This strategy seems to work well for me with the opportunity to add more as and when I can. September should be a bumper month as I'm due a bonus at work
Hope everyone else is doing well. Only 18 more Friday's between now and the end of the challenge!!!0 -
Been a while since I posted in this thread. I got a new car on finance in March as I needed something reliable for my new job, but I'm hoping to have that paid off by the end of the year and I'll then be saving like mad again! What will your verse be?

I am also doing this because I have never saved before and dont want to waste money. So I have put down £500 'savings bill'0 -
Just popping in to say I've been away from the forum for a few weeks as sadly I lost my DM last month after a short but horrid illness. I've not done any saving but will start again as soon as DM's flat etc., are disposed of. Well done everyone, there are some amazing savings going on every month0
