Frustrating time with new Asda mobile sim

  • Transferring to EE took 5 days on a spare phone I have. My normal phone has taken 6 days so far and is still not with EE. For this entire time I have had no use of this phone. A balance can be obtained using the Asda helpline and waiting while a recorded message is given followed by a current balance. Overall I would recommend just getting a new sim and a new number as the change over system keeping an existing number is pathetic, especially if you can't do without a working phone.

Wondered if anyone could help. I've recently swapped my old Asda sim for a new sim on the EE network. I followed their instructions to get a unique voucher number (to transfer my existing number and get 1 free month credit) and have sent it to them on the new sim. There has been no conformation this has worked, I can't call to check my number/balance etc. as it says 'Result Unknown' and calling voicemail doesn't work as I apparently have no credit even though I'm supposed to get calls and texts free for a month.

The instructions state that it will take 2-5 days to transfer my mobile number over yet I've no way to find out this is working - the lack of the free month credit makes me doubt this. Also as they suggest, texing BAL to get a credit balance doesn't seem to work either.

Anyone else had experience good or bad changing over to the Asda EE networ sim? Anyone had similar problems? I would appreciate the feedback!
  • The Asda transfer system to EE is pathetic I agree but can you tell me a cheaper service for Pay as you go ?, I can't find one.

Because for low users, like me, they offer top ups & not "bundles" that expire in 30 days

My free alternative sim from Sainsbury's only allows £10 bundles which expire in 30 days

With my Asda sim £5 lasts over two years, I do not use data, or send 1000 texts a month

Perhaps you can suggest a similar offering?

PS already have Ovivo, so may just use PAC & go with that

Sainsbury's Mobile (on the Vodafone network).

On paper, the same call and text charges but after the first minute it becomes per second billing wheras Asda remains per minute billing. Thus a 61 second call on Asda is charged as two minutes.

Asda/Sainsbury data prices are very different though.
My OH commenced her Asda port on Sunday, got the confirmation text the same day, but the number has not yet been ported after 3 days. Since they only give you an initial 10 mins and 10 texts free on the temporary number, how do EE expect people to manage if a port takes 5 or even 9 days, as some people have reported?
I don't understand the time lag here, as in effect it's no different to a normal number port-in this case it's simply a port from Voda to EE, but without using a PAC.
Is it because Voda are not co-operating in this process, and delaying things?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Asda do not seem to be getting a good service from EE.

I don't think anybody gets a good service from EE
  • Asda mobile change over to EE with my same number now completed after 7 days without an operating mobile phone. Pathetic ! Just seen a recommendation for the mobile operator 3 on pay as you go. Worth looking at.
  • I have had the same problem. I phoned today and after a 22 min wait was told that my number had been changed after just 2 days but they do not message you to tell you. The reason my phone wasnt working was because I needed to remove the battery and reboot it - they dont tell you this either. My phone is ok after 3 weeks without being able to use it. The problem I now have is that the new network has VERY poor coverage in Suffolk so I have to change networks again! I am not happy!!

Hello I also transferred from the old asda to the new asda EE network.
I recieved a text saying my number is now being transferred and will take up to 2 working days, this was on 3rd december, two phone calls later my number still has not been transferred also after the first two days I have not been able to ring or text out on the temporary sim card but I can receive calls. I have ordered a sim from giffgaff who's prices are only slightly more than asda 10p per minute and 6p a text. so if asda do not fix problem by the time giffgaff sim arrives its good bye asda. Its 8 days since I started the tranfer phoned asda on 4th day and they said it was showing my number had transferred but there must be a problem and are giving my case priority.
