Frustrating time with new Asda mobile sim

Wondered if anyone could help. I've recently swapped my old Asda sim for a new sim on the EE network. I followed their instructions to get a unique voucher number (to transfer my existing number and get 1 free month credit) and have sent it to them on the new sim. There has been no conformation this has worked, I can't call to check my number/balance etc. as it says 'Result Unknown' and calling voicemail doesn't work as I apparently have no credit even though I'm supposed to get calls and texts free for a month.

The instructions state that it will take 2-5 days to transfer my mobile number over yet I've no way to find out this is working - the lack of the free month credit makes me doubt this. Also as they suggest, texing BAL to get a credit balance doesn't seem to work either.

Anyone else had experience good or bad changing over to the Asda EE networ sim? Anyone had similar problems? I would appreciate the feedback!

  • Firstly does the phone screen show Asda Mobile with the new sim inserted? If not the phone needs to be unlocked from the old network with a code from Asda (via landline).

Their website states - re the transfer code text that should have been sent ok to them if the phone is unlocked.

"When the text has been sent this will commence the transfer of your mobile number automatically and can take 2-5 working days, we will send you a text message when it is nearly complete - you don't need to contact us or do anything else.
Your free bonus - 100 minutes, 2,000 texts and 100MB for 30 days - will be applied to your new Asda Mobile SIM immediately.
You have now joined the new Asda Mobile service on EE and can dispose of your old SIM card."

They could be very busy with this process so I should allow the full five days and then contact them at customer services by landline if nothing has happened and you haven't received their confirmation text.
  • Hello I also transferred from the old asda to the new asda EE network.
I recieved a text saying my number is now being transferred and will take up to 2 working days, this was on 3rd december, two phone calls later my number still has not been transferred also after the first two days I have not been able to ring or text out on the temporary sim card but I can receive calls. I have ordered a sim from giffgaff who's prices are only slightly more than asda 10p per minute and 6p a text. so if asda do not fix problem by the time giffgaff sim arrives its good bye asda. Its 8 days since I started the tranfer phoned asda on 4th day and they said it was showing my number had transferred but there must be a problem and are giving my case priority.
  • I have the same problems. Have been trying over 7 days, sent the voucher number off 3 times, sent emails to ASDA Mobile Customer Support 3 times, no answer on anything.
I've had enough of it, managed to get a PAC number (using a different working phone) and am now switching to Sainsburys. Already started the process and Sainsburys said they are getting hundreds of hacked-off ASDA customers switching to them. They are the same price far as I know.
7 days and still waiting is beyond a joke.
  • Sainsburys and GiffGaff both charge for calls by the second (rounded up) which means that a one minute and one second long call will cost 9p and 11p respectively while Asda charge by the minute (rounded up) so the same call would cost 16p.
Another good reason for changing provider. Every little helps!

Vodafone must be laughing their heads off at this foul up...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I received a trial sim from Asda today and there do seem to be more technical problems afoot as it installed T Mobile internet and MMS settings in my spare phone, which don't work of course.
Asda's support website settings don't seem to work either and it was not possible to get through on their 2732 helpline at teatime so they must be really busy with calls for help.
Hopefully it will all settle down shortly but it's not the best start to a new service.

It probably is just teething problems but is still hightly annoying. I've decided to switch to Sainsbury's mobile, not least as they charge calls by the second and not by the minute like Asda i.e. 1m 1s is 9p with Sainsburys but 16p with Asda. To be fair with Asda, they offered up my PAC code no questions asked, unlike Vodafone (when I switched to Asda) who seemed very reluctant to give me my code and it took many phone calls and almost a month to retrieve.
  • Well Sainsbury's did the switch in 24 hours exactly (see my message earlier). All working perfectly.
It's sad though as ASDA was an excellent service until they 'tried' to change from Vodaphone to EE.

I was quite happy with ASDA but as they've caused me to look around we are now changing to Three's 3-2-1 service. It's cheaper at 3p a minute although they do round up, but even so that makes a 3 minute call only 9p.
It would have been Sainsbury's but as we've got 3g compatible phones we thought we might as well take advantage of the technology shift.
If it doesn't pan out then Sainsbury's it will be as I believe they still use the Vodaphone network which I've found works as well as any and better than most

I reckon ASDA have well and truly shot themselves in the foot by mucking about
