Moving on up, 2014 here I come

So here I am yet again with a new diary and renewed aspirations for the coming year.
2013, hasn't been the year I wanted it to be due to various factors...DH's redundancy being the main factor
so now is the time to shake off the old me and this year and move on up to 2014.
Things financially to sort this coming year:
1. Car insurance - see if I can get it cheaper
2. Home insurance - again see if I can get it cheaper
3. Savings - This will be under a few categories, more about this side later.
4. Concentrate on the savings challenges
5. Reduce the credit card bills!!!
6. Sort DS's school trip next year ~ £260 to be paid by July '14
7. Sort out Christmas 2014 ~ ok I know that we've not got this one out of the way yet but have made a small start with regards to the Savers clubs.
Things to sort personally this coming year:
1. Loose weight - I'm currently 11 stone and feel very unhappy with how I look
2. Sort the house out - On going concern and needs more concentration to be successfully cleared of carp.
3. Reduce my alcohol intake - this was initially going well and I'm sure if I put my heart in to it, I can change this.
4. Get more organised.
There are more and will update as I remember them.
I have once again set up the 20p and £2 Savers Club challenges for 2014 with the aim personally to be better off at Christmas, than we are now.
On the work side of things, more money is coming in now but I do need to speed up.
Talking to DH, it was agreed that we do have enough coming in the household but we need to get a better grip of things. We are a lot better than we were a number of years ago but there is always room for improvement.
Problem - The only main thing that is lingering at the moment is the financial security with DH's new company. They're trying to get an investor to plough money in to the company and if it doesn't happen then the new company will go under in a few weeks and DH will be spending the New Year looking for a new job. Fingers crossed this will not happen and the proposed investor has done the deed and all will be well.
So there you go, time to restart again. Not giving up just yet!
Whilst I get my head around what else I need to add to this first post, I'm off to work.

Back again.
Right have updated the new threads for the 20p and £2 Savers Clubs, no doubt will have some more to add tomorrow
Have also updated my list above with a few more things too.
I think I need to stick to a personal spending limit and avoid my nemesis Tesco's. This is my downfall and I will happily admit I'd rather spend time in there than doing housework lol My thinking is £10 pw.
One good thing is that my car doesn't really get used now, so we are sort of saving money as I'm not putting petrol in it all the time but DH doesn't want to get rid of it yet.
More planning and thinking needed.0 -
Morning diary,
Was awake most of the night trying to think of how I can make 2014 a lot better than this one. I'm still thinking lol
Anyway, I'm trying to not think about how big the debt is and will do a proper total once Christmas is out of the way.
On the work front, there is a struggle going on. We need an extra body in the kitchen for an hour a day to help serve and start the washing up. My boss has repeatedly told the line manager that we need help, the school has even requested help. Line manager says no and that 'we need to work faster!' We already work flat out as it is and it doesn't help that LM increased out work load by 60% recently...GGRRR!!!! Rant over....(smileys aren't working so can't insert annoyed one!)
Any how, as a consequence I'm getting paid extra money as we are finishing later, so that helps the funds
Got a few more Christmas presents to get this morning before I go to work, then I can send off those ones to go Oop North.0 -
Good morning diary,
It's Friday and for those superstitious lot it's bad because its also the 13th today. Would love to know why my posts end up with large spaces between each sentence? It's never happened before.
Anyway moving on to today.
Checked the bank account and updated the spreadsheet.
Have put some shrapnel in to the demi-john and some 20p's and 50p's in to their pots.
20p's ~ £2.60
50p's ~ £1.00
Kids have their school disco tonight and I'm looking forward to catching up with my friend whilst I'm there, some money will be spent but will put any change in the pots.
Next week is the last week at work and the last week of term too, really looking forward to it. Feeling very stressed and tired at the moment and looking forward to getting Christmas done and out of the way so I can start afresh.
Kids have the dentist tomorrow morning and DD has her pantomime with the Brownies in the afternoon.
I need to get the family presents wrapped so that they can be sent North, so that'll be tomorrow mornings little job...might make me feel festive too.
At some point I need to sort out the shopping list for this month, DH and I agreed that we wouldn't go over board with the food this time as a lot got wasted last year.
Right off to sort the kids out.0 -
Hi Purplemumof2
I too have had a bad 2013 and looking forward to improving things in 2014 - I am similar weight and need to lose some and I too want to sort my house out and be more organised.
I collected 20p this year and did the SPC - the 20ps quickly add up and every little helps. I only did this because you started the thread - so thanks
So will wish you luck on your journey x0 -
just wanted to say i think 2013 has been bad for many people... i ended 2012 single and then within the first 2 weeks of 2013 got made redundant... after 6 weeks on dole went part time and in july started a july time job im starting to enjoy.. i have now well in may met a great guy ....
the car went bang and ive replaced it.. i used most of my redundancy to pay off most of a loan...
like you i want 2014 5o be here so that i can continue...
i wanted to say all the best and i hope you succeed with your challenges my spare change gin bottle is slowly filling up..
hope the disco was ok xx0 -
Good morning,
Had a few mixed couple of days, including playing hooky off work yesterday and today so I can catch up on things.
Yesterday was spent sorting out everything Christmassy and today will be spent catching up on house stuff in time for the big day.
I feel a bit guilty that I've not gone in to work but with the hours being awkward at the moment, I've not been able to get organised. Next year will be different!!!
Have checked the bank account and it doesn't look good, just hope payday is early this year.
Am I the only one that wants this year to be finished with? We put the tree and decorations up last night and I'm itching to take them down
Still thinking about plans for next year, will do more thinking when I'm ironing later.0 -
Morning Diary,
Well had a good few days off but alas back to work again...never skived off work before but was well needed. Still three days to go until the end of term
Wrapping DH's presents with the kids this afternoon and the kids have their carol concert at the local church this afternoon.
Aiming for a NSD today, need petrol but that's usually out of the budget...which is non-existent at the moment! sigh!
Said to DH that I want a party for my 40th, that's just over 2 years away, although I'm trying to get a full time job, we should theoretically be able to get debt free or as near as debt free on the salary I have at the moment and with what DH earns.
So one of my great aims next year is to get at least £7000 paid off (which I feel will be half of the total amount) as well as getting sorted for Christmas 2014. Lots of serious budgeting to be worked out and some serious saving to be done.
Right off to get sorted, have a good day everyone x0 -
Aha, I found you!

I lost just over a stone this year, going from 12 stone  to about 10 st 10lb at last check. I'm only 5 ft 1", so that goal will carry over to next year!
I kinda want this year to be over to, or at least for Monday to come around as it's payday! I can then put the "great budget" into action. Well it would if I actually created this magic budget. So far all I have done is thought about it and given myself a headache :rotfl:
I like your goals list idea, will possibly borrow that at some point if you have no objections?0 -
Morning EB

I'm 5 ft 3" so quite similar to you.
Feel free to use my goals list, I have no objections at all, every little helps as far as I'm concerned lol
I'm like you with regard to the 'great budget' I've been trying to find the one that works for years, probably doesn't help that life gets in the way sometimes and blows everything out of the water lol0 -
So have updated my signature with the current debt figures. I hate double figures so getting the MBNA one in to single figures quickly as possible is going to be fun! I hate MBNA with a vengeance so will have fun trying to get rid of that one!
Talking to my boss yesterday, we get paid tomorrow
although I think DH gets paid as per normal, which he said he would rather have it like that.
Still thinking about my budget for January and how I can make the start of 2014 go with a bang as well as loosing weight. DH reckons that my aim to lose weight will last two weeks and then I'll be back to my old ways again, which I have done in the past...not this time!
EEEKKK School run time, back soon.0
