. Many a true word in fiction. But no, there are some good ideas about animal lead domestication.
Imagine, for example, trying to domesticate a cat. But I can quite imagine a cash liking the vermin attracted to our stores, and our fires.......
I think BBC website had a story today of family 'having' to call 999 as they were trapped in bedroom with 'berzerk' cat not letting them into the rest of the house followed up by story on are domestic cats ever dangerous. I guess cats have been watching the news and thinking 'Why should the bad dogs keep all the headlines to themselves?'
Have to admit I saw both stories and didn't bother to open either of them...I think....0 -

Increasingly common are breeds which are f2 ( or f1) generations from non domestic breeds. It wouldn't surprise me if these had fewer inherited traits of tractability and soppiness. These could theoretically get into 'moggy' pool easily. ( a friend has a brother sister pair of accidental f2 breed cross moggy cats) beautiful, and lovely. Not at all vis ions, I'm not saying they are all vicious, I am saying the selection has not necessarily been made on aimiability as has been important in some other breeds. ( kind of like any dog could bite, some I bite expect to have shorter patience or a worse bite under provocation but all are capable of being provoked)0 -

I read that too. Not the best bit of journalism. Feral cats will fight you if cornered. But if they get away they won't come back for more. Privileged glimpses of the blooming obvious.
I did once read that cats do cause deaths but mainly by being trip hazards near stairs.;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
DH got out of the office at 8: 20 tonight and was meeting friends for supper. On way he passed a guy huddled in the street who had OD'd. Doorman at club told DH not to bother calling ambulance as it happens with this guy 'all the time' and he 'makes more money in a day than I do' . Agreed its not where we want NHs money to go, but could you not make that call?
DH waited till ambulance arrived ( very quickly)0 -

I still have a scar and a changed shape of nail bed from Bombay duck (RIP) for. When I had to medicate her.
The thing that cannot be underestimated is the strength and muscle of a fit feral. I cannot remember how much Bombe weighed but......a Bomb! and she was hard and up giving like a boxer, quick and cunning. Poor frightened girl.
Fwiw, I wouldn't try and nurse another feral. I miss bombe, but we copnsidered feral rehomes and decided against it. We have looked at a few semi ferals, but I'm not that keen either. I feel we 'should' but ATM I also feel keen not to bog myself down with more that I 'should' do. Selfish, but practical.0 -

We bought a house where the owner had tripped over his dog on the stairs and died. The house was being sold on behalf of the Dogs Trust, the beneficiaries of his will.
We bought the house two doors up as well which Nick Owen used to live in. Anne Diamond used to live in doozer's parents old house. #randomshyteEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Dooz, do I know what you mean! I'm a hands on practical. My job now is management. I have no idea what to do. Though I've been doing it for years.:o
It's weird. Running a business with other people in it means not doing the thing you do. You do everything else but that.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I remember a better story about a man trapped in his garage by an angry badger.0 -
Chewy, if he described the wife's new hairdo in those terms, what did he expect?lostinrates wrote: »Davesnave hazards a guess at maybe a grain store? DH read arch and anth. He loves the idea of digs
. But PLEASE let me get one area of garden in and done, I've been fairly patient considering we're two years behind on that. If the bricks looked roman I'd be in there too.
I would love to know, but I wonder if we ever would?
My parents' village had a dig like that over what was thought to be the medieval marketplace.
Isaac, then 3, found an Edward III silver penny, and was induced to swap it for a 50p coin by my Dad. I think he was ripped off.........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
The kiwi slept with non RP in bed last night. This met with his approval. This morning he's enjoyed the view from a little town window, especially loving school run time, loved children tapping at the window at him and offered all of them his chew toy through the window.
Non RP reckons he might settle till the weekend but that kiwi 'll have had enough by then (though non RP is saying would like to keep him for ever). Big dog doesn't settle away from me/home despite actually being non RP's dog, but we're considering trying again with a swap on Sunday, just for two days, which should see the bulk of work here on site finished and possibly even heating. Oh, kiwi apparently LOVES radiators, non RP reckons he'll be ready for ours to work, he is curling up in front one in what ever room they are in after testing it for heat and expressing delight.
I put dog dog with big dog last night. She was NOT impressed. Its clear to me that when the heating is finished and we've had a spring clean its going to be worth considering separate bedrooms ( I know, I know, severe posh alert). Dog dog and kiwi like it hot and so can be some where warmer and where big dog is less bullish, and big dog can feel safer about her own space and have it a bit cooler. The joys of next winter should be better control over this sort of thing.0
