I told my clerks last week I wanted to step down a bit - max of 3 days a week in court. That's because the last time I did a full week in court I was absolutely exhausted all the time, and thought it wasn't a very good idea to do it again. So I'm only doing about 60% to 70% of my normal work load ATM.
Complex questions about A level physics or higher get directed at OH now, whatever my state of health and enthusiasm (-: I can cope with his history questions, and he directs volcano / geophysics / earthquakes at my mother, who is both equipped and keen to assist (being a geologist and geography teacher by trade)....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Take comfort in the fact most animals that are free living would choose to remain so. I do not say all because I am a strong believer in the probability of SOME animal lead domestication theories.
As in the Cat Who Walked By Himself - the wild dog, wild horse and wild cow all going to the cave when the First Woman wrought the singing magics, and they struck a deal?
I've always liked the Just So Stories, and that one in particular....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Orthopaedic surgeons?
Q. How do you hide a £20 note from a GP?
A. Hide it in a text book .
Q. How do you hide a £20 note from an Anaesthetist?
A. Hide it in the patients notes.
Q. How do you hide a £20 note from a Orthopaedic Surgeon?
A. You can't hide money from an Orthopaedic surgeon.0 -

I've always liked the Just So Stories, and that one in particular.. Many a true word in fiction. But no, there are some good ideas about animal lead domestication.
Imagine, for example, trying to domesticate a cat. But I can quite imagine a cash liking the vermin attracted to our stores, and our fires.......0 -
DOmestication does seem to be something that cats opt for entirely on their own terms, and push off if they don't fancy the billet any more, or get more tuna down the road.
But your vermin and fires thing is pretty much exactly like the Cat Who Walked By Himself........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I haven't read any Kipling for years. Don't believe we've unpacked any either that I remember. Hmm.
Its very unlikely IMO fwiw horses or cows would have been domesticated in an animal lead way. I think I stick with the 'we got wise to farming over chasing eventually' stuff for that.. Its hard to see animals would choose to stay with us when we ate them and couldn't give them more than they could accrue themselves.

That's the gist of the story - the dog, horse and cow are seduced by the First Woman's Singing Magics, and accept pretty poor terms. The cat fools her and makes his own, better deal (-:
The Woman said, ‘Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, help my Man to hunt through the day and guard this Cave at night, and I will give you as many roast bones as you need.’
‘Ah!’ said the Cat, listening. ‘This is a very wise Woman, but she is not so wise as I am.’
Wild Dog crawled into the Cave and laid his head on the Woman’s lap, and said, ‘O my Friend and Wife of my Friend, I will help Your Man to hunt through the day, and at night I will guard your Cave.’
‘Ah!’ said the Cat, listening. ‘That is a very foolish Dog.’ And he went back through the Wet Wild Woods waving his wild tail, and walking by his wild lone. But he never told anybody.
When the Man waked up he said, ‘What is Wild Dog doing here?’ And the Woman said, ‘His name is not Wild Dog any more, but the First Friend, because he will be our friend for always and always and always. Take him with you when you go hunting.’
