Ah, sorry, it's always more complicated than a few lines can say.

Crivens. It's all a bit heavy in here for an emotionally repressed Anglo Saxon like me.

Bit of a family update. I'm feeling extra proud of girl Generalissimo. She's been picked as star of Orphan Annie of her drama class and is one of only 3 kids from her primary school to be picked to go to the Sydney schools Gifted and Talented day.

I'm trying to push her down the science road because I know what the quants at work earn! She's determined to impoverish herself by doing acting and singing.

Hey when she's world famous, you'll be equally happy with the $10 million per film and the quants will have been replaced by a computer completely anyway.:D

    Well done Generalissima

You can insist she gets a decent academic education as well as acting and singing, but if you push her into a financial career when she doesn't want to, she'll either rebel and resent you, or she'll comply and be miserable in the way that michaels has been describing.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

DD's hair is now, well, purplish. She wants it a stronger purple. I am concerned as to how many washes it's going to take to get it back out again.

That is part of the fun.

In years to come you can say "do you remember when your hair was purple for a month".

A month I could cope with. Until it grows out, not so much. It's nearly as long as to her waist.

    Hmm.

I can't wear heels over 2 inches without getting terrible back ache. Luckily I'm about 5' 6", so I have sufficient height .

I usually wear heels up to about 2" although my boots that I have practically lived in this winter are flat. I am 5' tall.

As a teenager I wore very high heels all of teh time, in an attempt to look taller. As a consequence, when bare foot my toes turned up almost at right angles to my feet.

In our early years of marriage they used to make OH laugh:o.

Many years of sensible shoes have flattened out my toes a lot, however I can still make them turn up.

Some shampoos have reputations for being better than others at lifting things out.

On grey horses tails we use that vanish pre stain stuff .

Edit: I should caveat that: my sister once asked me to dye her hair with bleach...as in household under the sink bleach. And she washed her hair that same stay with fabric conditioner. It looked awful, but the colour and the condition. I think I was about eleven when she had me start trying to do her hair.

Well done generalissima! I'm pretty sure the richest person in our family is in her desired field of work. I'd not rule it out if she's good, and there is no reason it cannot be done along side an academic start

The more she learns the more she will have to take to roles. ;).

Indeed. I'm very happy for her to have fun with singing, acting and dancing. I'd be much less happy with it as a career choice.

I don't want to push her into a financial career. Clearly my post implies that pretty strongly but I really don't. It's a horrible industry albeit well paid.

I wear a mixture for casual dressing. Even when I loved them heels and minis in summer days? Nope. Vertiginous heels racing or polo? Only if you are there to be seen not to see. ( although it certainly is possible to walk on summer turf in heels, you stay on your toes, its tiring, and can have repercussions. .....there are times and outfits heels just ain't right with.

The wedge is my eternal friend in those grassy situations. I don't do dressing up without heels.

I tend to shake off stilettos and go barefoot.
