Charity craze that seems to be doing the rounds at the moment. I think it a little weird, quite sweet when young girls do it, but now it seems to be spreading up the age range and I think more odd the older you get.
The idea is that kids who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy get wigs made for them. So the charities need natural hair to make the wigs, so the craze seems to be growing your hair for 2 years and then having it cut to donate to charity. All very laudable, but something for school kids until recently.
Anyone way your hair has to be untreated and not grey, so I'm not eligible.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I want more details. Two hydrogens of the usual H-1 type don't fuse to make helium (He-4) and if they did you wouldn't get neutrons being emitted. Neutrons don't have much effect on a normal Geiger counter either. So clearly he was doing something a little more complicated. The usual reaction in big machines involves deuterium (heavy hydrogen) and lithium. I'd better find out more about it quick, or they'll be asking me questions at school tomorrow and I won't know the answers. (TBH it smells a bit like the much trumpeted but mistaken "cold fusion" of a couple of decades ago, but I'll need to get more info.)
It appeared to be complete nonsense, to be honest. The usual patronising science coverage from the Beeb.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I can understand that, but I believe we have funerals to help those who remain to move on.
My mum has gone on holiday again today. Spoke to her last night and she went through her funeral wishes with me again
Edit: I'm not sure whether or not I'd want anyone at my funeral (or theoretical wedding) either - but I'd like to have a choice!
I think that you should leave it to the bereaved ones to do what they prefer. You can always knock on the coffin lid if you don't like their arrangements. So, if you don't knock, they'll know you approve of what they've done.
LIR, how about a swan pedalo disappearing across the lake at sunset?
There was a super-elaborate funeral down at Golders Green Crem the other day - Ronnie Biggs. They should have given the money to the family of that train driver they coshed. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Allegedly something to do with these, but I know nothing about physics and DH is saying fusion is impossible and that the best minds have been trying for years, so I don't know...

I assumed that it was the kids idea of a joke... as in, show how stupid science reporters are.
But, I still thought the concept was funny. Don't think my school would have liked a nuclear reactor in the science lab...“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I think DH would prefer I didn't die. If I cannot do that he'd rather I arrange it all. I cannot do that either.
I can say.....look....do it this way...if you want.0 -

I like your logic
I'm hoping it isn't something I have to arrange for a very, very, very long time - but I guess it would make it easier knowing what was wanted rather than having to choose things?
Anyhow - that's enough funeral talk from me in the past couple of days!0 -

Fusion is possible and has been done; even fusion which produces more energy than it uses to start the reaction has been achieved. At the moment it is not economically viable but research looks more promising than it has for years..“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

One time when DS was a toddler and I was a SAHM, I complained to LNE who was overruling me about decisions about DS. He thought carefully about it, and replied that he could perfectly well see why it would in many ways be fairer if he let me have some input to the decisions. However, he said (very politely), his first responsibility was DS's welfare, so he couldn't let any of the decisions be made wrong, so he was afraid he couldn't let me have any input.
Were you struck dumb, or did you laugh?
Was he always that arrogant? No possibility could creep into his head that he was other than 100% right all the time?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I probably misrepresented what he said, but he took issue with something in the article and what was presented as having been done.
I am not a scientist. We have conversations that go... him: "does it not bother you, getting on a plane, and not understanding how it takes off?"
me: "as long as I've got a comfortable seat, a nice in flight meal and the interior is not bright orange, no".Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
