Last time we moved OH made me take most of my books to the charity shop :(

I have strongly resisted all DW's attempts to get rid of books, with the result that the house is a tip. Books everywhere. She's right, really.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Unfortunately second hand books for the most part have very low second hand values. Non-fic and rare fiction tends to sell best, but an awful lot of second hand books sell for 1p plus postage. It doesn't help that postage charges are so high either.

I dread the next Dan Brown book, I really do. There's only so many donated copies of the Lost Symbol that a single library can use.

I saw a copy of that in a charity shop today.

I love my books. I did try to get rid of some. They made it to the garage but came in again. Books make a home, I think. They look and feel good.

I paid £8000 for mine, and have been offered £25k for it by someone with same initials (mine is 1 number, 3 letters)

It finishes off look of the car, and also is good investment IMO.

    Posh alert!

Mine and OH's were both under £1k each.

OH's would be unlikely to suit anyone else.

I've had notes under the windscreen making offers for mine. A certain type of shop matches the first 3 letters on mine.

The one I really wanted was sold for around £75k and has been offered for sale for over £100k since. Nice profit.

I think there's a copy in every charity shop in the land. The worry is when you get two copies at a time. They wait until the shop closes. Then breed:eek:.

Well. Dog dog managed a bedtime biscuit ( charcoal 'flavoured'). She tried not to look enthusiastic.

She's now on the sofa in the sitting room digesting this.

Wow, you have literally just reminded me that I wanted a 14 plate for DS :)

Why 14? Or would you rather not say?

You should see my dad's house. There are thousands of books (literally). Glass fronted bookcases with the books three deep on the shelves inside, piles of books beside bookcases, boxes of neatly sorted books in the loft with labels like "Agatha Christie swaps 1964".

Because she was hungry? Or because bedtime biscuit is important in terms of routine and joining in with the other dogs, and being loved by you?

Either way, glad it sounds as though she's perking up a bit. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I'm slightly gutted. My favourite asset management company has shut down: Bedlam Asset Management (tag line: Helping Investors Since 1288). They did an occasional series of newsletters called Pick of the Week. They are all here:

Here was a great explanation for why the GFC was about to happen/happening from 2007:

Why do you have to post interesting links tonight? Don't you know I've got marking to do?

Srsly, thanks for those. Fascinating. Just slightly too fascinating for an evening with lots of marking. :o

I'm tired - which is ridiculous, I've had a really lazy day. Not in court, did about 4 hours work, drifted around intending to do some tidying and de-cluttering before the baby arrives, had dinner with OH, and I'm exhausted.

OH, on the other hand, ran his half-marathon yesterday, and did another today. And he's getting up early to go and see his brother.

Your pregnant, he is not. Your body listens to you and decides that a day when you are not in court is a good opportunity to rest and recharge batteries.
