Pah, you look up and see something like that and it makes drudging into work seem even more pointless, best to just keep the blinkers on :(

Crivens mate. I'm pretty fed up with work myself but this is desperate stuff. Are you ok? Sounds like you need some sun or something there old boy.

Any chance of a nice fat redundancy?

Can you insure number plates for a sensible sum? If I had some plates worth £10k on my car I'd be too worried that someone would just rip them off the car that I would never be able to park the ruddy thing anywhere.

I knew someone who worked in Italy and when travelling outside , would remove his numberplates every night, as Roman numberplates were the only ones with a full city's name on them and they were often taken as souvenirs.:(

Dog owners like to think that their dogs devotion is unlimited whereas in reality they are highly adaptable creatures that are happy as long as they are treat decently. I hold no illusions about my hounds.

Avatar dog had a mental list of people he loved, in order, and would generally attach himself, quite happily, to the highest ranking member of the list who happened to be available at any time. He was slightly less happy to go with a stranger, but anyone who hung around in his life for a day or two would become trusted and join the list. I remember one time a friend of ours had come to stay. After she'd been with us for about 24 hours, we were walking (her, me, LNE and Avatar dog) along a street in town, and decided that she would go into a shop, we would go somewhere else, and then she'd meet us later. When we carried on walking, leaving her in the shop, he displayed his usual anxiety about "the group is breaking up and I want them all to stay together", so it hadn't taken long for him to feel that she belonged with us.

GDB, she's a woman, don't fight it, we are always right.

I am a woman but I have no desire to be always right in a relationship. Having spent a lot of effort recovering from the effect of living for 14 years with a man who was always right, I wouldn't want to inflict that on anybody. I don't think a man should be able to read my mind, either. I seem to be weird.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

What Gen said. Work is too large a slice of your life for you just to accept that work is miserable. I've had times in the past when work was miserable, and it eats into all of the rest of your life too. I remember times when Sundays were filled with a growing sense of dread as Monday inexorably approached. It's no way to live.

I know you've been trying to work fewer hours and do various juggles with different kinds of income stream, but is there no way you could actually change jobs to something completely different? Even if they don't make you redundant. Life is a completely different kettle of fish when your work is something that you basically enjoy, even though there will always be some tedious or annoying bits of it. IMO, that kind of thing is worth a cut in income if that's the only way you can do it. What's the point of having money if you feel too wretched to enjoy a beautiful sky? :(

My husband knows that he is always right. I know otherwise. Our relationship works well on that basis.

Ah, we don't have to pay for the brown bin here...going by who I think your council is, you could be as little distance as a 20 minute drive away, right upto about a 45 minute drive away from me.

I've got the Essex border approx 3 miles away halfway across the river....and we are the end of the line on our road, you can't go any further otherwise you would be driving in the sea.

I think we are further rather than nearer IYSWIM :D However, we seem to be moving inexorably east across the county with every house move, so eventually we may be NDN's !! My Dad was born and raised in Aldeburgh (when it wasn't half so posh as it is now) so it may be the irresistible pull of the North Sea.....what was they called it in the US 'Manifest Destiny'? LIR lovely photo and excellent news that dog dog has found scrambly eggy acceptable today.

I love books and we have a bookcase full but have also given many away over the years. Now I struggle to read normal size text so I wouldn't be without my Kindle. Dithered for ages and wish I had bought one sooner. They are great when you go away too - much better than filling up luggage with lots of books.

I know. I almost put something like [/failure to appreciate tongue in cheek comment]. But it's a sore point with me. I've seen it too many times (both ways round) in cases where it wasn't funny that I've lost my capacity to joke about it. I am not trying to imply that either bugslet's relationship or viva's is anything other than delightfully mutual.

My friend's car was stolen with a private number plate on it. DVLA told him he had to wait a year before he could put his number plate on his new car. Just in case the plate was mis-used in the interim.

SO the ownership of the plate remains with the owner, but the right to display it can be restricted.

That's really interesting, thanks. DH has personal plates on his car.
