I took the kids to Cockatoo Island today which was fun. It's an island in the middle of the river which becomes Sydney Harbour which used to be the place for ship building in Sydney up until about 1970.
They have the buildings and sheds still there along with some of the machines. The ferry stops there a couple of time an hour and they do a great deal on Sundays: anyone accompanying kids (and the kids) can travel all over Sydney for $2.50 for the day. We 're feeling the pinch at the moment so a great day out today was riding the ferries and getting change from ten bucks.
I love Sydney when it rains as everyone goes inside. It means that we get to have to place to ourselves.0 -
It's raining lightly here too. Just back from checking our road side ditches. The ones furthest away, which are really deep, are still full. Its difficult to tell because of the water but they look like they might benefit from the digger in places.
We've also suffered fly tipping in two places this winter. Its too wet to sort that put ATM, which is a PITA as it looks a mess (worse now road side hedges are cut).
The horses who had been naked through the day wanted their rugs left on today. Fine by me.0 -

Is there a particular cost pressure or is it just family life?
Your description of having the place to yourselves mirrors a conversation OH and and I had as we walked in the woods yesterday evening. That evening walks are lovely as we have the woods to ourselves. Mornings there are often one or two villagers walking their dogs, weekends quite a lot of people out for a walk, dog walking, running, mountain biking, horse riding.
This morning as OH walked the dog he met about another dozen dogs and their parties over there. He also picked up some rubbish to bring home & bin, two coffee cups. One felt like it still had some coffee in it so he opened it to chuck the liquid away.
A properly bagged up dog poo was inside. What goes through the mind of a couple who walk the dog in a forest, take coffees with them, plan to clear up after the dog and then litter the place?
It would have been more environmentally friendly to just let the dog go to the loo in one of the thickets.0 -

They've been having problems in Kent with people fly tipping dead horses and ponies, which the landowner then has to remove (at vast expense).
This one was about 10 miles away from my parents' place:

Have you ever seen a picture of a dog poo tree?
At home we only pick up in the yard and garden. It disappears elsewhere quickly enough.0 -

That is horrendous0 -
Day not got off to a good start, the brake failed on my car and I've rolled (very slowly) into someone's car
He was very good about it. His bumper was scraped very slightly, and that's about it, but I've given him my details. There's a bit of a dent in my bonnet too.
I've reported it to my insurers so we'll just have to see what the damage is. The excess on my policy is £800
The thing I'm most annoyed about is losing my no claims bonus. That'll probably cost me more than the damage to the cars.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

Can you not just call Tesco and ask them to pick up for free?I think....0 -

1) Glad you are OK, brake failure sounds extremely scarey.
2) With hindsight given the xs situation perhaps agreeing a payment with the third party might have been the best option?I think....0
