I always thought that but when I was there with my parents, we had just sat down in a cafe when we were distracted and they robbed a backpack that my father had just put down. Thankfully it was a freebie bag with just bottles of water but we did get robbed that trip.

I've travelled most of Europe and Barcelone is rife with stories of pickpockets. German cities are also friendlier than most people give them credit for!

I have openly * been to cologne, and only very briefly, maybe three days, maybe only two cannot remember. It was really friendly. Had a hilarious meal in a place where there were no English speakers and I have no German. Was hilarious and brilliant and friendly. Of course, they might have been saying horrid things, but I still had a good time, so it doesn't really matter if they were :)

Edit * indeed,it wasn't secret, but it was also my ONLY trip into Germany so far.

OK PM'd you. Let me know if you didn't get the PM because I am still beta testing the forum and there are some bugs.

All the best to missk (sorry I missed you) & also NDG. I've observed families experience what I'm assuming you refer to, & it is not nice at all.

Fortunately, it's not my immediate family involved in the leaving people out side of wills, but it is my poor Dad who has to cope with it.

I'll remove this bit later, too:
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

OH just got back from Sydney. He was out of this country 6.5 days in total, of which 2 days were spent on an airplane. So 4.5 days the other side of the world. Totally bonkers!

Poor chap must have spent the last week not knowing if it was Christmas or Tuesday, let alone day or night!

He needs to try out the Silvercar trampoline, and bounce back into GMT.

Are you allowed to tell us anything about the possible new version of the forum?

Does it still have the choice between fixed and stretchy width?
Have they removed any of the stats or added any extras - post count, thanks count, etc?
Does it still have the badges that that badger is supposed to award to people?
Are there any new features that you think are obviously great?
Do you still dislike it in the way you did when you first tried it?
Or is it all too hush hush for you to be able to tell us?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I'd be happy for the capital to be tied up in an asset fir was living in, and would be happy for it to go into a different property were they to move. Its what would happen if I left it to him first, or had not ore deceased him significantly or it to be an 'issue'. too.......cash ATM.......none spare! Imagine if we had children would be less cash!

I agree that what you describe is what most of us would want to happen - me included. I'm not sure that it would be easy to tie things up legally to ensure that that is what would actually happen in a whole range of unpredictable circumstances, including the "unknown unknowns".

If anybody works out a wording for a will that would have the effect of giving the widowed spouse the freedom to use the money for housing etc including moves as necessary, while still guaranteeing that the kids would get it in the end, I'd love to hear how it could be done. If I ever marry again, I might want to write a will like that (depending on the ages and levels of income and capital of the various people involved).

In dh's mothers case she died intestate and tbf the best will in the world wouldn't have changed what happened, so there is that to consider too, really. (Thought better, of what trying not to type, because I won't say certain things, its not fair to anyone).

the children were not prepared, or emotionally able, to rock the boat, and I get that.

Tbh, a will leaving them everything wouldn't have solved it either. :(

Send it, spend it all and leave nothing but love letters and happy memories I think. :D. Its much less hurtful than second guessing the love of parents both gone and surviving in the aftermath!
