My Dad uses some 1950s bits of carpets on his vegetable garden in the winter, to discourage weeds growing that he then has to dig up.

LOL someone did that on our allotment... But they left without taking up the carpet. OH has been digging up nettles and couch grass growing on top of carpet. He's now trying to find our Stanley Knife to hack it into small enough pieces to drag up and bag up to take to the tip.

Have to admit we put loads of old stuff from house on the paths at top of garden, they are in much the same state as the lottie carpets. :o

Edit - this has been answered.
Further update + link for silvercar now there.

I'm now going to have to think about what to do mortgage wise.

Sorry... Yes, worked that out :) spent the afternoon trying to start to tame the garden. And I've dragged a friend out for dinner and drinks and some comedy tonight :)

Ah, I got the lizard thing backwards. It was thought not to be venomous but it turns out to be mildly venomous.

The lizard in question is a Perentie and I saw one here:

A place that I suspect that neverdispairyounglad would love to visit. We went there with the cub scouts. It's a great day out, fantastic. We have one of these living under our driveway:

They're quite common in Sydney. My MiL's dog eats them when they get into her back yard so she shouts at the dog. She might as well shout at a rock but it seems to make MiL happy.

I went out for dinner at the local RSL Club last night and had roast beef with veggies for a very reasonable $11.50 (about a fiver at normal exchange rates). I think we have a winner in the 'driest roast beef in NSW' competition. The veggies were nice though. I then sat and watched the Aussies getting their Arsenals kicked by South Africa in the cricket, something I think I enjoyed more than most of the patrons of the club.

Mastering what can go wrong with glass cockpits brings a whole new level of complexity to instrument flying that just wasn't an issue 20 years ago when I passed my tests.

Royal PITA considering it's just for fun nowadays.:(

This may look more complicated, but it feels so much more like home to an aviation dinosaur like me....

The wind is getting up here, not really "stormy," but enough to rattle my internet connection.

Spent lots of yesterday clearing mud and grass off the drive. I ache:D

Other than that, not much happening here.

Oh, as a result of the 5:2 diet I have lost enough weight that I am the same as I was when I was 19. Unfortunately, when I was 19 I was fat :(

That's still great though if you're losing? I'm sure we're more dense than we were when we were 19, anyway ;)

    I wish I weighed what I weighed when I was 19:(.

I get so down about it. I think of so done offered me my figure or my health back I might opt to have my figure back. I KNOW that's a frightful admission revealing my vanity and vacuousness. But I think its the truth. The truth is of course, because the two are related if I had my figure back, it would mean they'd have fixed some of what was wrong with me anyway I guess.

Sadly physically I'm a lot less dense than I was at 19 but mentally it is the other way around :(

I was contemplating cutting the grass yesterday but surely on 22nd February that is just plain wrong? It does worry me that we have had no proper frosts to kill off the nasties that normally get killed off in the winter. However I am lucky enough to be having a winter cold (cough, sore throat, temperature and lots of snot) so at least that feels slightly seasonal.

Today's excitement is taking DS (who is 5) to a birthday party. I don't know any of the parents in his class and have to admit to not really being interested in doing so, so it will be a couple of hours of browsing (here's hoping there is decent signal there).
    I think....
