mentally it is the other way around

That's something I've noticed recently... It seems much harder to learn new things now than it was then.
Wonder if there's maybe some truth to the whole 'can't teach an old dog new tricks' line.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Today, instead of gardening I've had a flare up and decided I needed cheering up. So I've eaten 6 scotch pancakes from waitrose with chocolate spread and chopped nuts on top.

And then you came on here:).
What were you attempting in the garden? Ours is too waterlogged to step on.
I feel like I want to 'start growing something' but I have no idea where to start this year.0 -

My new ( last year) rheumatologist approves of the plan but not the way most people do it (eating the calories as supper) . He feels most strongly people should eat the calories as breakfast or at least as two meals one as early in the days as possible.
My GI hasn't commented much but says he understands why I feel the need to do it. I suspect he is against it from a gastric point of view for me, but is trying to view the problem holistically.
Neurologist felt it couldn't hurt.
Endocrinologist felt it could help one of the more serious problems and make the other worse but wouldn't impact on PCOS at least, lol.
Cannot remember if I asked anyone else. But I think I got a pretty round view.
Ultimately, I live in my body and feel I know best what keeps me going on a day to day basis. Fasting really has ALWAYS suited me. Having started eating fruit/veg raw again slowly I had my first fast day last week. I felt amazing.. I hope to get back to a regular fasting regime fairly soon. I am aware that diving in too quickly after such a long pretty regular pattern ( which is unusual for me) would be a shock to my system, so I'm just being a bit cautious. Il am NOT prepared to do anything that sees me needing to see doctors this summer
I think that it just hasn't been studied enough yet for specialist doctors to have an opinion that's much more informed than you or I. I think there is some evidence of it improving cholesterol, blood pressure, and inflamatory disorders but you couldn't say if this is better than just losing weight normally.
But my experience in only six weeks is my blood pressure is down, I'm in a lot less pain from lipodermatosclerosis (a disorder that is partly inflamatory) and am steadily but slowly losing weight.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I was reading quite old research on calorie restriction and health (in animals) when I was an undergrad. Five two, no, calorie restriction and fasting, yes. Its not so odd. Not like some weirder fad diets (only eating white food anybody? Maple syrup and cayenne pepper in water fasts? ) .
Its really good that you are feeling so much better. Ultimately, on a day to day basis, I feel that's how I make my decisions. The dietician and GI should know most about food for me really, but they cannot manage or say much about how diet interacts with the rest of my problems. I've looked in to this in the past, with nutritionists and other dietician s, and I know that what I eat /don't eat makes a significant difference to me.
Ultimately, I have to rely on MY experience of what's working because even if I am the anomaly on what's working or not, its no comfort if that leaves me suffering. This I feel its important to try and get my head around it as much as possible, apply it and monitor, then do what works well.
Then......just get on with life..
I was fairly positive this latest thing wouldn't work and agreed to give it a go mainly so they could see I wasn't being difficult.0 -
Another first world problem. We have a week off in March and had considered going away. My three suggestions ; Wales in a motor home so we could take the dog , or snorkelling and heat - not too far: Sharm , so a more recent suggestion - a city break - Kiev.
We do not want to be confined in a tin can with a damp dog, OH has vetoed the other suggestions on safety grounds.
NP inspiration required. Previous recent hols at this time of year have been Norway, Cyprus, Dubai, European cities, motor home in Wales/England. We are planning a main holiday in June so it is not a disaster if we do not get away.0 -
Dubai, Gambia or the saychelles. Maybe canary islands.
Not US - they keep on having massive snow storms. Not europe, wet.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
