Lately I have been craving fizzy water and milk. Clearly milk would indicate a shortage of calcium, but so, surprisingly, does fizzy water. I am now drinking plenty of milk and fizzy water (not at the same time mind).

When I was very ill I wasn't eating or drinking much at all, so being replete in something isn't much of a surprise. I am a great believer in listening to your body.

I love milk. Drink a pint minimum daily.

I need some NP help with my DW. DW washed DS hair this AM and with it loose the only way to describe him would be extremely pretty :(. How can I persaud DW that it would be better for him to have a hair cut to a more boyish style? She is not against per se but she just loves him still being her 'baby'.

Difficult, but I can't disagree with anything Viva says.

What does DS want? I have a (male) relative who had long hair as a boy and was quite happy with it. All his adult life he's kept his hair very short. He's also very much an alpha male.

If your instinct is that he is being bullied in any way that would be a different matter.

ETA: I'm not a parent... so I don't really know.

I'd be chatting to DS myself.

Thinking of putting down Lino or something in the front hall way as an Interim thing.

I hate interim things, but in certain weathers the carpet smells of Tom cat.

A friend has given me some lovely carpet and the idea of putting it down to get destroyed by people tramping in with boots on makes me cross.

Lino seems a good medium term option right?

I do occasionally take vitamins as a kind of safety net. There are a lot of conflicting studies about them so I avoid taking them daily, but I wonder how much benefit I get from taking them every few days.

Just checked the ones I have and they're 45% of my RDA of Selenium and 83% of my Vit E. So maybe not so bad.

So what's a chap to do?

Very hard to balance these things, I find. I know brazil nuts have selenium in them, but apart from that I don't know if I have any, and I don't eat brazil nuts very often! This is why I take the occasional supplements! I eat fruit and veg too, fruit juices etc. so it's not as if I neglect my diet and take the pills instead.

It seems to recommend taking neither. vitamin A is a carcinogen in men low in selenium, but men taking selenium have a high risk of cancer anyway so the two don't "cancel out" in any safe way.

The trampoline has been revived. Forcing the legs back into their slots has corrected the curvature.

Don't know whether I'm pleased or not.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
