I might have seen a komodo dragon although I suspect it wasn't big enough to count.

This thing was probably 6' nose to tail and very lizardy.

I slept through the night without waking up stressed last night for the first time in weeks at least, maybe months. It was brilliant.

Glad you got some decent kip.

Komodo dragons interest me. How do they tolerate all their germs (that kill their prey)?

Plus they're parthenogenic and some of their eggs fertilise themselves (giving them virgin births).

Happens to turkeys too which is why we don't see their eggs on supermarket shelves. nothing like seeing a beak in your egg to put you off your breakfast.

I have posted some invaluable advice about which bags are best for collecting dog-poo I'd follow that advice to the letter if hand hygene is important to you. :)

Wow. A picture of a live haggis.

Have you ever seen a drop bear in the wild during your visits to Australia?

There's a lizard here (can't remember which one) that eats carrion. It's favourite method of gaining access to a carcass is to eats its way up via the bottom and start eating the intestines then it kinda eats its way out.

For a very long time it was generally assumed that this was a venomous animal. It turns out that the reality is that this charming method of eating means that its mouth is full of the most hideous toxins so a bite will inevitably lead to a very horrible blood poisoning.

I heard recently that a small cup of the stuff botox is made from is easily enough to kill every man, woman and child on earth.

PM me your address and we will send you something to reward your achievement too.

Were you at home or had you started dog sitting?

I am dog sitting. I sat indoors and read a book and watched the Winter Olympics.

Last summer, OH was at home when next doors small grandson popped round for a visit. They went up the garden to the chickens and found a warm new laid egg, which the little one took home to his grandma.

I became aware of this tale a day or two later as the grandma had found a dead chick in it when she cracked it open a day later.

One of our chooks had been sitting on a solitary egg, and must have left the nest for a few minutes for food when OH and the little chap came along and performed a raid.

Fortunately the child did not see it and was fed another egg in the belief it was his 'own' harvest.

lir, you were wanting to find light fittings with translucent tubes and the light inside them. How does this look? (Imagine it not being dusty! :o)
    :o

I have lights a bit like that on the landing, only with more dead moths.

My husband benefits from the power of dogs to help him relax and improve his well being. I think it gives him a holiday for his head - when home he has a legitimate time every morning and evening when he can just walk/run/ listen on his headphones with an undemanding companion. More opportunities at weekends. Has to do it even when the weather is bad etc. He was not brought up with dogs, but we have had them now for 27 years. Any dogless gap has been awful for him. He chose the breed. We have big ,friendly, gentle, active bears.

OH is as we speak, fast asleep. I on the other hand am on here as the dog woke me at half past midnight because he needed to go out. I suspect that post rugby/post wine OH's love of dogs did not stretch as far as letting his four legged friend out for a last wee.

I was absolutely paranoid last night about letting the dogs out for a wee!
