There was great program on the Telly recently, about the ones in Florida.
Here it is……enjoy!

OH went out to take his punctured tyre to the garage. He phoned to advise DD to take another route out of the village as he had had to drive under a fallen tree on our road. She took another route and had to turn back as a telegraph pole and cables are down.
OH and the dog ran for 5 miles through the woods. Lots of trees down, but as I have posted previously there were lots down anyway, what he aid was noticibly worse was how wet it all was. Streams like raging torrents. Running through ankle deep water even on the tracks. Ditches must be full. Last year during "forest operations" the heavy plant kept getting stuck in ditches and having to be towed out. So they filled in some of the ditches but used hard core - that track seems OK, but I wonder what impact it had had on the rest of the drainage.
We are going out shortly and will limbo dance under the tree.0 -

So now housing association/shared ownership/sinkhole. Not an ideal combination.
Should be interesting to see how the NHBC warranty works on that one.
These things happen with underground water build up and streams.0 -
I put Tusk on one night at bedtime and now he demands it every night!
It's third only to Wind the Bobbin Up and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
I love things like this. He sounds scrumptious.
OH and I were at Glastonbury a few years ago, at the end of teh afternoon we were walking back to our campervan for a rest befor the evening acts when a voice behind us said "if you do that again, you won't see the Prodigy". We turned to see a mum negotiating with a little kid of about 6.
We loved the idea of a little chap's behaviour being influenced by the opportunity to see the Prodigy live.0 -

♦ Old mine shafts - in areas (like Cornwall) many people dug their own mines, randomly and uncharted. Nobody knows they are there. Some big old mine shafts are known about and mapped. Mines go vertically down - and horizontally across.
♦ Old streams that have dried up
♦ Geological reasons, such as you get in Florida
For [1] and [2] when you get a LOT of water, old waterways open up - and old mine workings get flooded. Then, the water starts flowing ... faster and faster... and suddenly, the shaft of land above a weak spot/similar gives way and collapses into the underground stream.
Florida's a bit different in forming (it was built from sediment, that hardened, now every time it rains, the acid rain seeps in and underground - and it's slowly being eroded .... and then there are collapses randomly.0 -

I could be rude and drive down to see the smashed up/all gone beach huts alongside the cafe where people had to be rescued last night.... as I'll go that way to Tesco
Or, I could think "Don't look like a plank, you'll be seen having a sticky beak on the national news....."0 -
Not saying there's a connection but...
The houses that are over the sinkhole are very close to Buncefield.
They were built after Buncefield, and the ground there razed after the effect, so this shouldn't be secondary to the explosion. However a large amount of PFOS foam was used to put out the fire, which as I understand it is somewhat acidic. I wonder if that could impact. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
