My son just demanded his vitamins and now he's tanting because he wants to listen to 'mena' which is music, specifically 'The Ledge' by Fleetwood Mac.

    How old is he, Siro?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I don't know if you all remember but a pine cone the size of a water melon fell out of a tree next to my bus stop.

Well after a few weeks of drying out the Generalissimos and I have picked out the nuts. We got, at a guess, 100 from each cone. Maybe slightly fewer.

I roasted one and it tastes a lot like a chestnut although shaped like a giant almond, about the length of an AAA battery but with the same relative dimensions as an almond.

    Generali: bush tucker geezer.
    Couldn't forget! I was envious!
Mad that the story didn't make me laugh as it didn't actually hit you on the head :)
But envious at you being able to collect it and take it home

I love chestnuts - I'd love to try those!

I guess you googled first to see if it's poisonous or likely to give you the squits.

I'm a bit perplexed. Will your going out there make it less dark? Or protect the leccy?
No, but if you can see what's actually happening... or not, then you don't need to imagine that what's going on out there is 10x worse than reality

There's one stretch of road I'd often drive along, just south of Bristol. It's one of those stretches where you've just come past the part where you have to concentrate, then you round the bend and think "Aaah - here we go, next 40-50 miles is pretty much just sitting in a chair and holding the wheel".

Well, at that point, you can look out of the windows a little - and every time, without fail, I used to wonder what this area would look like when (not if) it flooded.

Here's the Google Streetview, it's just north of Weston Super Mare and Clevedon - the sea's very close to this point: http://goo.gl/maps/nVr10

Thanks. It's amazing how often this thread pops up when I'm doing a forum search for something else.

I guess its because we cover a lot of ground. And a decent collective vocabulary :)

Do you mind telling what river that is, CK?

I issue an amber alert for rising water levels on the Thames - Windsor to Kingston stretch - on Sunday evening/Monday morning.
Becoming quite an expert on rainfall/river level timings ;)

It's the Stort at Sawbridgeworth lock :)

30 mph should be fine - I cycle in that sort of wind (albeit slowly - no change there then!).

I'd be going backwards at this winds!
