    I understand this.

When we moved here I was' never moving again ever'. Now I feel like maybe I'd like to, but DH would certainly take convincing, he loves this house.
I'm sorry you feel this way; I suspect a lot of it's been formed from your experiences. And this is the thing with these things - we're shaped by our experiences, among other factors.

For me, I feel I've already "wasted" my life/time since the year 2000 and now I just need to close a door and unpack. Then work out how the NP will fit in for a get together :)

My new, chosen, area, would give us an opportunity for a waterside picnic, kite-flying, paper boat racing ... and paddling. :)

Condition permitting, this will be a staring point for negotiations.

If they both sold this year, I wouldn't consider going above £175-180k, leaving you with some money in the bank as a safety net, even after minor work has been done.
The difference for me is budget and lifestyle. I am trying to buy a house in a smaller budget, with no spare for "work" - and it's to be my home. If I wre buying property to "do up and sell on" or rent out .... I wouldn't care, or need to be so picky etc. There'd be no emotions at all, it'd all come down to maths.

Picking a house to live in means you can't afford to offer low and feel "their loss" if they said no. And, round here, houses are going for almost the asking price as a rule.

Not pathetic at all Viva, I had a similar experience and it really was a horrible experience.

I had a hysterectomy in the end and the uncertainty ended.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Today, on RM, in my chosen area, there are 12 houses in my budget, which break down to:

    2x Mid terrace, shabby
2x mid terrace, North facing rear garden/1 allocated parking space elsewhere
2x mid terrace, old/shabby, victorian (too old), "investors only"
2x mid terrace, shabby, has a huge pylon overshadowing the garden
semi, tenanted until July, north facing garden
new 2-bed yet to be built, being added to end of terrace
    2 clusters

There are only three in mine now, one of was previously listed in September and is back on now after the sale collapsed. We decided not to offer on it because it appeared to be falling down in parts. The others are a pokey little 2 bedroom detached house which the owners inexplicably listed for 675k (bearing in mind a massive 4 bed semi on a much bigger plot a few doors down sold for somewhere around £700k a month ago). The other is a house we haven't looked at but which hasn't got a proper garden (and has been on the market for months presumably for that reason).

    Rubbish.

So sorry to hear of the ongoing uncertainty, viva. Fingers crossed for a good resolution.
This is something only those in that position can understand.. It's you, just you, if you've made a mistake you're in it alone. Nobody's with you, you're not in it together.... alone.... small and alone and you made a bad choice.

This is so true. I have a friend who has some counselling training and is really 'together' personally. Yet, when I was chatting to her about her bathroom, she said she hadn't had a shower for a year [still had a working bath] because she couldn't decide what the best thing to do with the bathroom was e.g. replace shower, redo whole lot etc.

You can talk things through with others until the cows come home, but ultimately it's you who has to make that final decision on whatever the issue is, live with the consequences or pay more money to rectify the decision if you don't like it.

You can go round in circles and the paralysis of indecision can get very real.

Sometimes I'll agonise for weeks about something pretty insignificant, then put it to one side until I can face making the decision at a point in the future, and then suddenly one day the decision is made without further agonising.

I know that's easier to do with a coat of paint than buying a house, but one of my sayings is that I'll do things in my own way and my own time, and that's OK.

That's it. I am quite happy to give people my opnion and tell them what they should do ..... but trying to make the same decisions for myself is nigh on impossible, because .... the buck stops here.

So I have to make my own choices based on the options right that moment ... or not decide .....

Pastures, did you rule this one out? It is in the right area but a different postcode I think:

I like this one too, but again no idea whether good or bad area:

It looks like it has had money spent on it - new roof for example.

    Probably total cr*p though...

First one's in the "no go zone". That's why they're 25% cheaper for being the other side of the railway lines...... everybody "wants" to be there, but nobody'd dare :)

2nd one's miles away.... and on the edge of the other "no go" area, although not as bad as the first one. It's no off road parking mentioned at all, which will mean it's not got it. It's also an older house, which I wouldn't want.

Also, having money spent on it's no good if it's not to my taste.... looked and it just looks like all the other houses on the inside. Loads have been decorated etc... with hideous big flowery wallpaper "feature" walls.

Sometimes things are cheap for a reason you can live with - sometimes they're cheap for other reasons that you can't live with..
