I don't think interiors need to be period I just think they are probably better 'neutral' than being completely out of kilter so by all means put in a sensible modern kitchen in a victorian cottage but not a hyper-modern high gloss brightly coloured one - does that make sense?

    ,?

    Well, I don't like high gloss kitchens...but.....as a point I disagree.

S e of the most amazing houses in Europe have been altered and what we look at are facelifts and remodels or simply old houses with 'modern' bits. Eg, our house had its Georgian remodel leaving that strange out of kilter inglenook in the sitting room. Is it an archtypal Georgian elegance? No, absolutely not, its unsettling! But its organic and how things really happened. I actually really like honest modern additions to very ancient buildings. Purely based on my style, I prefer them to be done in a ghostly least imposing way of pure glass and lightness. I wish we'd had the opportunity to do something like that here tbh.

I fine the neutral thing ok, but the modern honesty....refreshing, honest and when its done beautifully, a delightful choice. For me nothing beats living in untouched original splendour, but its just not always possible. I'm just not that neutral. I look forward to moving beyond first stage making this ok and onto making it less neutral. :). ( knowing I'm making it less saleable as I do so.....)

DD's ex's family home (how is that for a tenuous connection) was an ancient farmhouse (mentioned in domesday) with huge ingle nook fireplace, thick walls and tiny windows in parts....and yet from the front Georgian and you would never have guessed.

I suspect NDGs parents house has had a bit of modernisation over the centuries.

OH has texted. He has on offer from two women, passion cake and valentines cake. He wants me to improve on the offer of cod for dinner or he may go elsewhere.

Are there any Nice Men who fancy cod loin - either roasted or baked with lemon, tomatoes, onions, garlic, new potatoes and herbs in a greek style dish?

I am off out to have a swedish massage. Very MSE, I get loyalty points and have amassed loads so this is for free:).

DH has someone with a crush on him at his gym. The guy is in his fifties, DH isn't that flattered. One of the women whose attention makes him 'aware of her presence' is leaving the firm soon.

IMHO it would be possible to build a new town around a railway station on the main line S of St Albans and N of the M25.

You could call it Park Street or Bricket Wood!;)

Excuse the mess, workmen here at mo.

Someone painted them that colour because at the time it would have been fashionable and/or it suited them. You are allowed to do whatever you personally feel would look best for you.

Decide what you like, say 'f@£& it' to what anyone else thinks and feel empowered to do it. If you want to paint it white, would you ever feel inclined to have them dark brown again? Dark brown isn't the natural colour either.

DH also forgot the date. Good news really, though I haven't let him know, as I am angling for something and he has been resisting.

I'm sure the dog would appreciate cod loin while you're off being pummelled by some adonis. :rotfl:

I'm not sure you can complain about your OH getting offers of Valentine's food if someone is massaging you for free :)

Edit: and I think you should be leaving the Nice Men for the single Nice Women! :D

Once white they will stay white; the question is whether I would regret it.

They are too noticeable at the moment, but would white make them look cheap and fake.

We were thinking of replacing light switches and old plug points with trendy chrome ones; electrician says no. Could change the plug points but not the light switches, so they won't match in any case. :(
