I'd sit on the sofa with a tray on my lap for meals.... and the breakfast bar would just be one huge, empty, usable space for cooking, organising things, sorting paperwork, reading big Sunday papers, spreading things out, doing crafts, food buffet layout if the NPs came for a BBQ ..... with the potential to be used to eat at if people were coming over.
Table is next to a power socket, so if the laptop is on, I'll eat at the table. Otherwise on the sofa. No tray though.
I'll have to see if having a functional dining room changes any of that (probably not,the habit well have set in too much by that time).0 -
I think the wind is only just starting to get going here now, it's been a little blowy tonight but it has just gone up a gear. No rain as yet though but it is fairly chilly.
It also appears that the boy's TV is finally giving up the ghost, this is the television which was claimed upon back in early 2007 after a blooming great hole was created in the top by a falling speedway bike model and it has spent the last nigh on 7 years with a piece of cardboard covering up the hole to keep out the dust (for some reason, the insurance company didn't want the television when I claimed, they didn't even come out and look at it!)
It's done well as it is approx 12 ish years old and bearing in mind that blooming great hole....but unfortunately, there is no way I can replace it quickly, something middle son is rather unhappy about. I will however, be keeping an eye on Freecycle and our local selling page to see if anything comes up on there. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Pn - Hope all is ok.
Sue - hope you find a replacement TV soon0 -
No, I am a Back to the Future fan. I also like sister act... but that is something I keep quietly to myself. I admire toy story but didn't actually enjoy it very much. It's a taste thing.
I like Sister Act too. I enjoyed BTTF at the time, but haven't given it much thought since I saw it when it came out. I saw Toy Story 1 and 2 and quite enjoyed them, but when my kids got taken to see 3 with friends, I didn't feel any particular need to see it myself.lostinrates wrote: »I'd hate not having a kitchen when we properly entertain. Yes. This. What lir says.
My current kitchen has an archway from the hall. The hall is small and there is no door in the doorway from the hall to the dining room. The stairs go from the dining room up to the bedrooms.
So, I don't have to look at the mess in the kitchen when I am in any other part of the house, BUT I cannot let people into the house without taking them past the archway and giving them a view of the mess in the kitchen. One day I would like to do something about that (and about the extent to which the cooking smells can waft up to the bedrooms) but I haven't any clear idea yet of how that could best be accomplished.Nikks, What is the room off the conservatory? Could it be a downstairs loo?
I thought that too. Downstairs loos are great for keeping random visitors out of your own bathroom, as well as for convenience, especially with small children (not that you've got any ATM, but who knows what may happen in the future - you might have some, or you might sell the house to somebody who's got some).Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Hope all NP are safe in this weather.neverdespairgirl wrote: »I'm currently thinking the kind of thoughts about Bob Crow and his Merry Gang which would, no doubt, get me chucked off any pretensions to NP status.
I don't think qualifying for NP status sets a particularly high bar as far as attitude to Bow Crow is concerned.vivatifosi wrote: »Bob Crowe seriously rankles me. Being from a working class background, I can appreciate some of the advances that unions have gained on behalf of their members. However for the most part I feel a consultative two way approach to staff is much better than collective bargaining. And I absolutely detest the firebrand type, incapable of either compromise or walking a mile in my shoes, when they would rather develop personal fiefdoms.
It doesn't matter whether it is Crowe now or Scargill 30 years ago, who benefits long term from their actions?
I'm not from a working class background, but I agree with all of that.
I remember the situation in college when I was an undergraduate. We had a new JCR president each year to represent our views to the college management. They varied in quality. The more firebrandy they were, the less they achieved. The absolutely outstanding one, who persuaded the college to agree to all manner of things that undergraduates had been unsuccessfully asking for for ages, was the son of an ambassador, literally a born diplomat, who was the very antithesis of a firebrand: warm, appreciative, an excellent listener, and always able to see all possible sides of any issue and give consideration to everybody's PoV.I will however, be keeping an eye on Freecycle and our local selling page to see if anything comes up on there.

Hope all NP are safe in this weather.
Seconded. It's unusual that nobody has posted yet. I hope that all of your houses are ok and that you managed to get a good night's sleep. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Well, hairy old night.
My fence with problems standing firm is going to need intervention again. Just one panel I think , though its hard to tell in the dark. Think we lost the gate too this time, which is a little odd.
At some point through the night dog dog let herself out of the room they sleep in and went into the sitting room and slept on the (uncovered) sofa.
At least she had sweet dreams.0
