I think it quite likely I might, by some irony, lose my electric connection tonight, The wind is very sever and my pole has further pitched.

If I'm not around for a few days chances are I'm fine, just warning you....

Same thing here, thermoses are already being filled.

It's pitch dark outside - but I am hearing noises that sound like fences may wish to depart. Might get the torch out and wave it about ...

I know more than I would like to about convictions, but it still isn't very much (which I'm sure I should be pleased about) - but are there specific crime 'names' or is it more of a narrative thing - e.g. are there separate offences of soliciting the services of someone in a car as opposed to in a building? I first wondered this a few days ago reading the local paper (it's my excuse for looking at what houses are up for sale since I cancelled my zoopla alert :)) and saw that someone had been convicted for what sounded like a rather niche crime (can't remember what it was now).

I'm not sure whether that even makes any sense :)

I know a lot about criminal convictions, but not from personal experience of being convicted!

This is a specific offence, it's, as identified by tomtom, an offence under the Sexual Offence Act 2003. Perhaps more generally known as kerbcrawling.

Prostitution in itself - exchanging money or similar for sex - isn't illegal in England and Wales, and hasn't been for a very long time (if it ever was). There are an awful lot of potential offences around it, though - such as living off immoral earnings, or running a brothel, or kerbcrawling, or soliciting.

In terms of specific offences names, in a formal document, it would be identified by the statute and section, or similar. But even in court, in mitgating for example, you might well say something like, "the 2008 conviction for ABH...." which is a specific offence under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, that of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

On trial by indictment, in the Crown Court, it is set out in two parts. The first says (for example)

"It is said against you that you did, on the 4th February 2014, assault Arthur Smith, thereby occasioning him grievous bodily harm, contrary to the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, section 20."

And would then go on in more detail under "Particulars of the Offence" to say, in a paragraph or two, the nutshell of the allegation.

That's the formula, unless it's an offence which isn't set out in any statute, in which case it would say something like:

"....on 4th Feb 2014 you did murder Arthur Smith, contrary to the common law"
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

I know what kerbcrawling is (not through personal experience either though!) - so is kerbcrawling a separate offence to engaging services in a brothel?

If I can tear myself away from the internet, I'll dig out the paper from the recycling, and see if I can find the offence that got me thinking :)

I don't think there is an offence of engaging services in a brothel, at least not in England. There is an offence of causing, controlling or inciting prostitution for gain (s52-52 Sexual Offences Act 2003) and several offences of keeping a brothel (s33 to s36).

Kerbcrawling is a separate offence to the above offences (see my above post for the actual offence).

I'm pretty sure that Prostitution has been a common law offence in the middle ages; I think people used to be killed for it, certainly it must have been against the law prior to the reformation because it would be against church law.

So, other news for today is that a copy of the new house deeds arrived today from the solicitor. So it's definitely official.

But seeing as I found that 'other' for sale listing, I can now share a floorplan (I know you appreciate a floorplan).
I think I've cropped out the addresss, but if anyone manages to un-crop it etc please let me know! I'll take down in a couple of days anyway just in case...

Edit: I wish I'd come across this listing before (I don't really understand how I didn't) - it would have been much better than the hand-drawn one I did from memory!

Edit 2: Just noticed they call it a kitchen/ breakfast room. Only if you like to eat your breakfast standing up!

How large is that bathroom? It looks like you could wash your feat and do your business on the throne at the same time.
