I thought you follow this board?

What it means is you can MEW, put down a chunky deposit and outbid some poor FTB who has restricted access to mortgage funds due to a slim deposit as the result of high rents and set yourself up as a BTL landlord with the mortgage paid for you (courtesy of thiose same high rents) and all the capital appreciation funding your retirement (in your dreams, in fact it will fund the deposit fund you will have to gift the DKs because evil landlords have pushed up property prices to the extent that they can't get on the ladder without the help of the Bank of Mum and Dad).

    I had feared as much.:(

Just did that for our first house and learned it's worth five times what we bought it for. Mind you our current house is worth over 100k more than what we bought it for nine years ago.

Not totally convinced what this means to us unless we move out of London which we can't do for the foreseeable future.

Mine went up by over 350% in under 15 years :(
Shame I didn't own it then, I should be ok for invites to the neighbours for homeowner dinner parties (maybe I should practise my groin thrusting) as I've helped prices for the 30-ish houses that are like mine.

Still, I could have paid the same amount for a lot less house and only 5 mins walk away. I didn't get a bargain, but I'm pretty sure I got the best deal I could. I could just have timed being born (and getting a proper job) a little better!
  • I think time of year makes things feel worse. We've had no real winter, just this eternal 'wet dank dark' and so season feels weird and sort of unending. Its not that healthy.

I think that's a February fill-dyke feeling every year, no matter what the winter's been like. It seems to have been cold or cool, and dark, forever. This too shall pass.....

Soon it'll be the light evenings, and we'll all enjoy them.

On reflection, I do think there is something to this. Leave home in darkness. Get home, it's dark. Seeing little/no sunlight. It can get one down a bit if you allow it to.

I was talking with a friend last night about the lack of snow. We're now wondering whether we will actually get any...

I made fish pie last night. First time ever. Had never poached fish before. Whilst nice, & pretty healthy, it was a little bland. Next time I'll look to use smoked fish, but still need to consider how to give it a little oomph flavour wise.

I agree, it's depressing never seeing your own home in daylight!

My mother makes a lovely fish pie, including chunks of hard-boiled egg, 50/50 smoked and normal haddock, and lots of parsley.

I looked up the house my parents were in when I was born ( now flats) and was further dismayed at prices. Seriously mad world.

I also am sure people think we are quite barmy though, spending fortunes on things that don't add any real value to this place, but at least we're not deluding ourselves into the value in a paint colour. We know why we are doing it which is enough. :)

Our first home would now be worth 5 times what we bought it for 27 years ago. I wish we had kept it and rented it out. Would make an ideal BTL.

I am back on the information superhighway (proper). I am no longer at the mercy of o2 and reaching the limit of unlimited data!

Got a text and email saying that BT had decided they didn't need to come round on Thursday at all, and that the line would work from then. So of course, I've come home and plugged in the modem to see if it will work today... and it does!

The boiler has decided it isn't playing, but you can't have everything, can you?

    I'm ranting, its ok. :o

    .

Oh, yeah, now I see where you're going.

It's like the fact that despite them sending out people to fix our overhead electricity line at least once a year for the last five years, they won't pay to put it under the ground ten metres where a neighbor has given them permission to go.

Madness, since it cost them £700 a time to fix the lines.

But, these companies have never shown much common sense.

To be honest, if I were him I'd just apply and see ( at least if it doesn't cost too much money and/or prejudice future applications). It's fair to say that it's always possible it could go across someone's day on a Friday when they're in an 'approve and forget' mood.

Yeah, it's not very likely he'd get it approved, but it's a higher chance than not trying at all.
