I used to live near the Severn. And was impacted by flooding often. I so remember the stress of the bore in bad times, and excitement when not bad. And.......slight well, frankly, more than slight, anticlimax the first time I saw it.0 -
Our snowdrops have yet to appear. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0

If the weather allows I'll try and remember to get a snap tomorow. I think ours must be getting some what tired now!
The ones on the verge have been dispersed by the ditch clearing and verge levelling year before last, and took last year off, but this year have come up, not as clumps, but as a scattering, when in a few years they have clumped up again it will be incredible.
What I wait for now are the white croci I planted our first year here. Another plant I didn't used to love.
I wonder now if one actually dislikes that much at all or if rather one likes or dislikes most things, just in a certain time and place given the opportunity.....0 -
I appear to be the only Belfast one here.0

One thing I found funny last night, we were trying to find the right person to speak to about differing needs children and the bloke said "Ah right, so foundation level". He seemed rather perplexed when I said no, level 3 and checked to make sure I said the youngest was statemented. I was a little annoyed that those who were statemented and doing foundation were given a comprehensive tour whilst we were not because he is (hopefully!) doing A levels.
What A levels is youngest thinking of taking? Or does it depend how his GCSEs go?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
If anybody is looking for what to watch right now, I can thoroughly recommend Guy Martin on Channel 4.
Speed With Guy Martin
Attempting to break a world record of driving a snow sled down a mountain.
DON'T be put off by the word "speed" or that it's a world record of speed .... or even Guy's accent..... this guy is fascinating. He's a motorcycle rider (don't let that put you off) - and this is the last of many world records he's tried to beat (usually succeeding).
He's never been on a sled. All his world records are for things he's never done.0 -

I also spent a large portion of my day in hospital. They are trying to work out why OH is not up the duff yet. I got to sit in a waiting room and read some cracking publications such as "Cotswold Life" and a magazine about camping and caravanning with a feature article about a visit by a Chinese delegation to the headquarters of the camping and caravanning club in Coventry. Fascinating stuff.
The wise man always takes his own book or magazine to a court / doctor / hospital, I reckon. Saves you from near-death-by-caravanning (-:
Hope all the tests went well, chewy? Or do you not know yet?So the girl who turned me down for HMRC texted me:
'Masomnia, I need to ask you something, are you by chance familiar with the self assessment for HMRC'
At least it shows that "not tonight, darling, doing my tax return" wasn't the same meaning as "not tonight, I'm washing my hair". Hope you enjoy your date this evening instead! In other news, I hear that the person who is currently doing the extra responsibility post that I want has applied for a promotion. If he gets it (and I think he has a good chance of it) then his current thing will be internally advertised. So I might be in with a chance, although I think I would be up against some stiff competition.
Is that like adding head of house, or head of department, or whatever, to your current job?PasturesNew wrote: »A sucker and his mutt are soon parted
Sounds like GDB dog had the better idea, really....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Footage from earlier showed the wave breaching the wall close to the Severn Bore pub, so it's already been popping over the top - question is how big's the next bore going to be ... and the next.
Of course, all this region was devastated by a tsunami in the 1600s, with the tsunami wave coming miles inland.
My dad told me of the bore many, many years ago - it was on my "to do" list, but if you're not close by it's really bit pointless and hit/miss if you see anything/see much or whatever, so I've never taken the time to go and look.
Thanks to youtube in the past I've seen it - and it was on the telly once on something like a Countryfile episode, with the presenter having a go ... and it's not that 'exciting' at all.0
