So glad to hear the good news from NDG and Gen.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Thanks re the advice for transport.

There is a transport service, well two actually, one run directly by the college and one by the local council. The college run one is the more suitable one as payments etc can be done either via the bursary (if eligable) or broken down into easier payments, rather than the lump sum of £170 paid in advance and hoping you can claim some of it back later.

So the financial side of it isn't really too much of a hurdle, it is more the coping element for youngest. Youngest does not as yet go anywhere on his own and although the designated stop is not far from here, it would mean a period of time when he is on his own....and this is the issue, especially in the early days of attending.

He SHOULD be ok once on the bus but it will be unfamiliar people, possibly noisy and that will make it stressful for him. Coming back, he would have the issue of making sure he gets off at the right stop although it won't be a huge deal if he gets off at the last stop as that is fairly near my parents but again, it could cause him to freak out.

They are not insurmountable problems, just got to get our planning heads on and try to prepare as much as possible in advance.

One thing I found funny last night, we were trying to find the right person to speak to about differing needs children and the bloke said "Ah right, so foundation level". He seemed rather perplexed when I said no, level 3 and checked to make sure I said the youngest was statemented. I was a little annoyed that those who were statemented and doing foundation were given a comprehensive tour whilst we were not because he is (hopefully!) doing A levels.

Mind you, we did get a tour of the relevant rooms important to youngest when a former student at youngest's current school who is now a student at the college, saw us and offered to take youngest to see them.

On the whole though, a fabulous place, the acoustics are perfect, the layout is perfect, the whole setting is spot on for someone who has the sensory problems youngest has.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Good one. Cockfosters.

I'm at the ultrasoundist. Turns out I've got loads of lumps. That doesn't sound so good but I think that the fact remains that it depends what the lumps are made of.

ETA: they're cysts. If I go back next Saturday they'll drain them. Good news.

Good to hear it's nothing serious. I've had to have a suspicious lump investigated before and it was a great relief to know that it was benign.

I also spent a large portion of my day in hospital. They are trying to work out why OH is not up the duff yet. I got to sit in a waiting room and read some cracking publications such as "Cotswold Life" and a magazine about camping and caravanning with a feature article about a visit by a Chinese delegation to the headquarters of the camping and caravanning club in Coventry. Fascinating stuff.

Interesting. Different treatment to UK. Here they won't drain but prefer to remove. :(

I had a cyst in the UK when I was a teen. The GP popped it with a sterile needle. It's still sort of there but deflated IYSWIM.

I once had a boyfriend who would play this. Tedious.

I then realised that he was tedious as well as the game.

    Ouch!

So the girl who turned me down for HMRC texted me:

'Masomnia, I need to ask you something, are you by chance familiar with the self assessment for HMRC'

I'm not, but we got her sorted eventually :D We then chatted for a further hour and a half on the phone (not about tax).

    Think this one's a go-er :)

Sounds promising... as though you have got her affairs in order.

Lydia, which magnets should I get for your magnet trick? I want to do one by each exit.

    Strong ones. :)

Are you supposed to acrue annnually paid interest or just put it all against the year in which it is received?

Did DWs back in April as she was owed several hundred, did mine in December and paid the 563 owing last week once I had the suitable credit card. After doing DWs found she had earned another 40 quid of interest over 2 accounts so that is a tenner we failed to claim back but it didn't seem worth investigating whether it was possible to resubmit.

I asked about that once. It all goes in the year in which you receive it. Unless somebody has died. One of the problems I had to phone up HMRC to get advice about a little while ago was what my dad should do about annual interest paid to an account that used to be his joint with Mum, and became just his when she died part way through the tax year in question.

The reading matter sounds ... er ... delightful. Hope they manage to come up with some answers soon.

Congratulations to Generali and NeverDespairMama on not having any hidden nasties. Hope the procedure next Saturday isn't too unpleasant, Gen.

I have got a new laptop (arrived today) and have been trying to migrate a whole lot of stuff over from the old one, including loads of emails, calendar items, tasks and contacts from Outlook 2003. There must be loads of people like me who are still using Outlook 2003 despite upgrading the rest of Office to 2007 or 2010 because 2003 was the last version of Office where Outlook was included in the cheapo version for students and teachers etc.

In other news, I hear that the person who is currently doing the extra responsibility post that I want has applied for a promotion. If he gets it (and I think he has a good chance of it) then his current thing will be internally advertised. So I might be in with a chance, although I think I would be up against some stiff competition.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Went out for a walk with the mutt even though it was raining. I got to the corner and looked back, just in time to see the mutt disappearing back home again. I continued on my brisk walk around the block and arrived back, absolutely soaked, to find mutt sitting in the porch, looking pleased with herself.
A sucker and his mutt are soon parted :)
