Can't you just pay them using faster payments?http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/tools/bankaccounts/s/selfassessment.htm

I'm not sure what's in your grit. Is it salt? Does it melt (edit: er, become a saline solution in water)?

Yeah, but not too badly when its in used feed sacks (plastic heavy duty variety).

Not as great as sack and sand, but I really not expecting a big deal.

This is getting daft now. It's all changed/made harder. Can't use Billpay as that takes 3 days to get to them.

They never linked me to there. I've not got confidence I am paying the right place with that.... not entirely sure what it is..... looks complex, no confidence I'd be paying the right office or whatever.

Before they just used to link me through to paying....

Is there a charge for that? Looks like it's telling me a magic service name and to phone my bank and use that magic name to define the service I want to use to pay them. I'll phone my bank then.

Although I still don't have confidence with paying it like that in case I am paying the wrong office or something daft.

This is almost as exciting as when PN was getting to know her new mobile. :)

Hope you can sort it out, PN!

I can't help, I'm a simple PAYE pauper and my expenses go on the company CC.

Now I am doubly confused, so just hung up from the bank.

Logged into HMRC and went through to the page for finding out how much, to see if I could pay it there. It said I owe £0. So I hung up at the bank, then thought "oh, it's not updated the return I just submitted".... so now I am trying to find the amount I owe again, so I can phone the bank back.

There really is paperwork overload once you've a bank account - when you've about 10 it's never ending....

Isn't this worthy of a posh alert? Even a tiny one? No?
    10 bank accounts!

If you don't know which office you pay Cumbernauld

You just set up the payment on your online banking like any other payment. If Faster Payments is available the bank will automatically select it.

It's pretty easy, really, just like shuttling money across from one of your bank accounts to another...

Right - paid that. Money will be with them in 2 hours.

It really wasn't this hard last year, or other years.... I just got out my debit card and paid in other years!

It depends whether the bank accounts have any money. Having ten bank accounts could be an anti-posh alert if they all have overdrafts.
