Just caught the second half on catch-up, having seen the first half before going out.

All 3 rooms were basically painted grey. Why? Is it really such a popular / trendy colour?

I think probably the right one went through.

Although the end results looked OK, I did think a lot of it was very amateur and if I was paying someone to do this for me, I'd expect a higher standard than they got.
I didn't see who got through - and missed most of it. Not really interested. Hated what they did - and that grey was awful; far too dark, depressing and glum.

And I suspect, most of it has a limited life-span as it was done shoddily.

I've flown first class once, business class once...both business trips to Denmark.

I've travelled first class on a train several times, even in the last year (having a wheelchair, they put you in first class but for James' uni interview we actually paid for first class as for that occasion, it worked out cheaper using a discount)

We also went first class toand from Disneyland Paris, didn't have to pay for the boys and the supplement was only an extra £20 each for me and ex hubby.

Youngest's statement review today and as it is his last school statement before it goes onto the next stage, someone from the LEA was there...and oh dear, the school are in trouble. SENCO asked youngest if he has enough support and he replied "Well, it is somewhat lacking". Asked to clarify what he meant, he then said he only has a TA for one lesson a day at most, sometimes none at all.

The big problem for the school is he is statemented for 25 hours of one to one (not just access to a class TA but one to actually be at his side all the time in lesson) and what he has been receiving doesn't even add up to 6 hours per week...and all out in the open in front of the bigwigs who actually enforce the statements!

The SENCO looked shocked, the LEA woman looked to be very angry at the SENCO and youngest was confused as to what had happened to provoke the reaction. Turns out the SENCO has been timetabling TAs to be with youngest but for some reason, they have not actually been attending.

    Oooppsss......
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Second half of benefits street now and the dysfunctional and p155 poor parenting.

Gone midnight, 3 year old ready for bed... sitting on the worktop and serving himself with a huge portion of rice crispies (or similar) and sugar.... then they wonder why he goes mental, wakes up his sister and doesn't go to sleep until 5am!

I know why ...... dippy parents.

I liked the colours of the first too, though wouldn't use either like that for me, 'glum' can be 'restful' and 'sultry" in the right mind set.

Our room is a pale purplish grey (cannot think of name but its a farrow and ball colour ...oh yes, called calluna)

I saw some of it. Didn't see who went through.

Theoretically I should have disliked the younger woman's the most, but her execution and understanding of fabric and design seemed best so by the time I was off doing something else and she was covering a chair....no, I did just see the finished rooms, just remembered, but didn't see who won, Anyway, hers was IMO the best.

I love chartreuse as a colour. But I find these contrived try hard lime florals a bit frustrating. I did like, it with the grey but found it a bit...........raw, young. It might have been better if he'd beaten up the wall paper a bit and ripped it some. :D

When I did my house I was pretty henpecked by my sibling telling me that period colours were great - and I spent weeks going over colour charts etc. What did get painted looked awful. Didn't put the dark green on any woodwork thank goodness.

In the end I settled for: yellow, bali sand in kitchen, another yellow, a mauve, another yellow.

Then, later, I painted over most of the yellows with white, leaving just the mauve living room and a nice yellow in two bedrooms.

I decided that colour is a waste of time/effort/money choosing; it'll look different when it's up and it'll look wrong.

White is cheap, plentiful and you need one tin in the shed for touchup - you can always get more white to match, so no worry of out of stock/end of line.

Then .... do colour stuff with things - things that can be moved/changed if you hate it or get fed up with it.

Ragged trousered Philanthropists - robert tressell - I recall reading Grapes of Wrath, & a friend suggested I'd feel the righteous anger rise in me as I read. Whilst that never happened with Grapes... it did with this. Superb book that anyone who thinks they have a view on socialism really should read. Whilst you may disagree, it is a very worthwhile novel. I enjoyed it immensely.

I don't really like political writing but this excerpt from chapter 14 of Grapes of Wrath has stuck with me all my life. I had to study it for my O grade higher grade English almost 40 years ago.

Politics as poetry. Like Martin Luther King or closer to home, Jimmy Reid. Don't get wrting like that every decade.

The academic paper I linked to earlier was written to impress, but Steinbeck wrote to impress and persuade.

Might delete this. A bit serious as this was meant to be a discuss-favourite-colour-of-chocolate thread.

Need to get my head around spending some money on the house. Its all I can do not to chuck every spare penny (and there aren't that many) at the mortgage.
Definitely not liking this debt thingy.

Edit: and thank you in advance. Don't want to sound ungrateful ;)

Have you joined MFW yet? They seem a very friendly bunch when I go over there for a lurk occasionally. Some of them are very hard core, but they seem to accept all sorts whether they're throwing every penny at it or just trying to pay off a bit extra. If I had a normal mortgage that I could overpay without disadvantaging my dad, I might consider joining myself. (Tahlullah - your sig says you're one of the MFWs. Am I right in my description?)

Now I want to join in the discussion, but I've got too much to get done this evening. Will try to watch it on catch up soon. Expect some belated comments about grey decor maybe some time tomorrow or maybe Thursday evening.

The previous owners of my house had done the utility room in a dark gun metal sort of grey. I think utility rooms should have a light, bright, clean feel to them, and gun metal doesn't do it for me. I painted the walls pure brilliant white (although I never got round to doing the doors of the two under counter units in there, so they're still dark).

I am soooo pleased. This has been very long overdue. Am hoping the school will finally get its act in gear.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

You like white, so its good it works for you.

I hate pure white as it ages. There is an off white I love by little greene called clock face. I think you'd find it dull/too grim. I thought about using it for the 'white' in our new bathroom. When that needs a refresh I might.

I've actually shocked myself by deciding to go white (white colour) for our en suite. The problem it the white there might have to be pure brilliant white, where as I was trying to angle the clock face or a similar cold off white into the scheme, But I wantntomise a photo wall that. I think is pure brilliant white back ground . I know they can edit a bit though so might see if when we are ready we consider editing back ground colour. Then I might not go white, lol.

I was following this in the London papers about a missing Romanian tourist who got separated from his son on the underground. He was found alive and hopefully well after four days.
    http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/lost-romanian-tourist-63-survived-thanks-to-kindness-of-londoners-9071224.html

Was offered sandwiches by Londoners but didn't have any Engiish. Quite proud that locals looked after him but embarrassed that nobody got him to the poilice or to a anyone who could help him.
