Weather has been vile all day here, with only occasional breaks in the rain, but it's getting worse now. The rain is driving against the south facing windows, and the drumming on the conservatory roof is loud enough to hear inside the house. Very glad to be indoors. Feeling sorry for anybody who's out in it.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
We got back!
Bit on an eventful day. We arrived in Norwich ok, bit of a rush to catch the connection in Ipswich after our train was delayed but quite smooth after that.
Then disaster! A wheel sheared off my wheelchair half way round Norwich so I had to do the rest with my crutch and lots of stops/not quite going to all the shops we needed to.
Our 3 choices of train were all cancelled and our 4th choice according to the boards at the station was delayed by 30 mins....and then we heard an annoucement telling people that the Ipswich train was on platform 6 and for everyone London/Ipswich bound to get on it asap with the inference that you bloody need to get on it as you might not get another chance!
So, two carriages to carry 4 trains worth of people, hoardes of people running up the platform and then there was me, the snail of the pack, trying very hard with a non working right leg and a back in spasm, to go as fast as I could to get to the train before it left. Unfortunately, the flooring at the station scuppered me and my crutch went sliding away from me, not once but twice, further injuring my back.
Luckily, one of the station staff saw our predicament (our arranged travel assistance went out of the window with all the cancellations) and went ahead and made sure I had a seat on the train and middle son took one arm, youngest took the other arm whilst James went up the platform with all our stuff (including the knackered wheelchair) and we somehow managed to hobble to the train.
None of us were together, youngest and middle had to fend for themselves in between the carriages standing up and James sat down with the wheelchair by the door at the other end of the train but the spirit of community was amazing on the train. Everyone was talking to everyone else, none of the normal sit there with noses in books or phones, just a real community, we are all in this together feel.
The journey was a lot longer than usual, almost 3 times as long but the time passed quickly because we were all talking so much!
The wind is really howling here, I've had to tie a window down as the wind caught an edge and pulled it open, breaking the latch thing, so a lace is attached to the handle and then wrapped round the kitchen tap to keep it closed. The cat is scared and wanting fuss and looking wide eyed at every gust and I have my music on to block out the noise of the wind.
But at least my Christmas shopping is complete! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

....may amuse PN ,,,
Anyway, I then decided, as the list was now long (more than 3 items is long on Xmas Eve in Asda..... which was Plan A) - I'd have a go now and see what I could get.
So off I went. Shop fairly empty - as were many shelves. Got all the Xmas Day essentials except any form of turkey (what I'd chosen wasn't in stock) and I shuddered at the cr4ppy trifle I was being 'forced' into buying, so I visited the aisle 3x, put it in the trolley and couldn't do it, so put it back.
Came back, sis is snoring. I've come in, with shopping, put it all away, come into the living room, rootled in my bags, gone outside for a cig, come back in, got online, taken some sneaky photos of her snoring .... and come here.... she's still asleep/snoring.0 -

Oh Sue! So glad that member of staff helped you. Glad the boys all seem to have coped so well with what must have been a not very ASD-friendly situation on the train. Well done for getting everything sorted. Hope you have a bit of a breather tomorrow.
Thankfully because we use the train quite a lot (as I am too eek and lazy to drive :rotfl:), they are quite relaxed on trains, plus where they managed to get themselves a spot was a little away from the main hoards of people.
I must admit to being worried about how they would cope, youngest especially, as they couldn't see me but at least he had his brother close by. Fortunately he had his Ipod so he was reading The Hobbit for most of the journey and blocking everything else out.We made it! I'm on a hilltop (well the London equivalent) so I've no fear of flooding. But I can't help but feel we get more than our fair share of stormy winds compared with when we lived at lower elevations.
My dog seems very clingy tonight and generally he likes to just sleep on his blanket. Today he looks really nervous. I can hear the wind from outside so I wonder what he's hearing! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Can't sleep. Looking out of window, all fences still standing but goodness knows how. Something was making a noise earlier, so hope fascias are ok. Auto correct wanted to change that to hope fascists are ok. And a lull... I am trying to sleep with tv on to drown out noise. Every now and again Sleigh Ride plays on an advert or something and wakes me again.
I hope this makes sense. I'll wake up in a few hours and remember typing something about windy fascists. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The weather's gone really dull here. Cool and very humid. We're due to have rain tomorrow. We seem to get rain on Xmas day quite a lot, no idea why.0
