On the subject of first cousins, far too many! I counted 10 on my dad's side not including ones by marriage but lost count on my mum's side at 35 with two more of her sisters to go who unfortunately died, one in her late 30's and the other in her early 40's and I can't remember how many they had as our contact with them was not huge due to age difference/moved to other areas.
My mum was the abnormal one in her family, she only had four children (of which 3 survived to adulthood). Her elder brother had enough for several families! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Just listening to Donny Hathaway's This Christmas, and Sleigh Ride, which this year are my favourite Christmas songs (I change each year depending on mood).
What are your favourite Christmas songs/carols this year? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

We have one TV, a 32" one which replaced an old CRT one when it died.
Personally, that's one more TV set than I would have in my ideal home!0 -

To come close to answering the question, I think my favourite is 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen'. I love the wish that, 'may nothing you dismay'!
It also brings together the whole nativity which few carols manage and also has an amazing range as a song (I went as far as grade 5 in Musical Theory so should probably be able to explain better).
I also love 'The Holy and The Ivy' for having lasted so long. Apparently it's pre-English....or not perhaps.
Then 'Oh come all ye Faithful'....
(Yup, I was brought up CofE although rarely went to church, it was just the box you ticked for no other preference).
The best modern Christmas song has to be Fairytale of New York. Sometimes I feel like I'm living that dream.0 -
I don't pop on here often enough, but I wanted to wish everyone all the best.
It's a funny place, this debate forum. I can find myself quite easily disagreeing with people like Hamish or LM on many things; yet I quite enjoy and admire their tenacity and consistency.
This Xmas sees the Kabayiris with a parent who I thought wouldn't make it to this stage because of Cancer. But then, dealing with Cancer is a set of battles, and you aim to win every single one. I'm proud to say my parent has done just that.
The best present I could possibly hope for is a special Xmas meal today with my parent sat there.
For anyone out there facing similar or different challenges, I genuinely wish you the best of luck.0 -

I prefer it to modern tvs which I think are ugly.0 -
I'm off in a few mins and just popped in to wave goodbye.
Don't be mean to Nikki. I applaud her MSE-ness over the TV. We had one older than that until last year. Combined with a set-top box they work perfectly. I remember being at the dump a few years ago and watching someone dumping a TV set that was far better than the one we had at home. We now have a TFT, but it still just shows the same channels, so apart from saving electricity it was a complete waste of money.
I wasn't being remotely mean. Our one and only TV is much smaller, and was bought by my parents at Christmas, 1991. Works fine....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I'm not terribly keen on CHristmas songs - I prefer actual carols. OH agrees, but vehemently - he'd prefer carols which have a real connection to the religious occasion in question rather than the "I saw Mummy kissing Santa Claus".
Although he'd rather do without either, I think.
Isaac's feeling a bit under the weather - snotty, cough, slight temperature. So he's having a lazy day. It might be about the first lazy time ever for him........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I LOVE carols and love some Christmas songs. Dh however beats me on both.
Never did any one love Christmas so much as my husband. Its a strange phenomenon, the non Christian who adores Christmas, and the very religious parts of it too, but there it is. He loves all of it....church, and the non religious bits. Today he spend half an hour tieing bells to every door handle it he down stairs of the house, so that you open a door and it sounds like ' rein deer'.
(Shhh....sounds like migraines to me )
We've had a great day.. I said If I didn't start doing exercise soon I was going to explode so the o,an is we will do something every day DH is home so that if I have trouble I will not be alone. We started gently this morning with Pilates, but it was enough. We planted two trees. ( one of the two quinces we ordered was out of stock this season, but the meeches prolific wasn't so that and the Harry baker crab apple are in).
