DH is walking the dogs. I've cleared up house a bit. We had some people round and had delicious things to nibble.

I made blinis, which was fun.

I was hoping to make misskool jelly but didn't get to it, so will try and get that started in the morning to strain through the day and boil tomorrow evening.

My mum has pulled a zebra onesie out of the bag too. Hope no one is going to knock at the door... we look pretty special :)

The crocodile toes don't worry me but what is the funny box with the vase on top?
    I think....

Old school, that's what it is! Think its about as old as I am. Cost my parents a small fortune back in the day. Still working though :)

Merry Christmas GDB. Enjoy your travels.

Wondering who's got the most first cousins of any NP. I've 38 at the last count.;)

    Have a great time, GDB.

I lose that competition. I have 0 first cousins - my Dad's brother never married, my mother's brother is married with no children. Isaac also has no first cousins, because my 3 siblings and OH's one have no children between them (that could change, but they'll be an awful lot younger than him).

OH had no first cousins for most of his life, but his uncle had twins via IVF 5 years ago - they don't really count as first cousins, except technically, because they are so much younger than him. OH is related to about half of Israel, though, as second / third / fourth cousins.

I'm not sure I know all my first cousins' names (although many are repeats). Second/third cousins I wouldn't like to count. Some are on the other side of London.

The whole business can get complicated.

I remember overhearing somebody discussing a half-cousin and I had to go away and do some really hard thinking about what that meant.

Crikey, and I thought I had lots of cousins..

I have 22 full blood related first cousins, 4 half-blood related first cousins (from my Granddad's first family that we didn't find out about until after he died) and four first cousins from my uncle adopting them at remarriage.

When it comes to distant relatives, I'm probably related to about 20% of West Hertfordshire (that's an exaggeration, but I know there are thousands). I have very deep roots in Herts and along a lot of lines.

On TV we've got something called 'Carols in the Domain'. It's a Carol concert held in a big park in central Sydney (called the Domain now you come to ask).

The singers are largely selected on fame rather than merit so we've had soap stars and so on, singing out of tune. It is however very Christamssy. It's sponsored by one of the big supermarkets and 20 minutes in they've asked the audience 4 times to 'hold up your Air Wick scented candles'.

When I say Christmassy in this context I mean a celebration of crass and intrusive commercialism rather than a celebration of the birth of Christ.

In our house we can decide to be Australian or English, that's the rule. I think I can see which side of the fence my daughter sits. It was 25C at 8am today and she asked me to put the heater on.

What is my cousin's husband to me? Nothing, or once removed?

My cousin married a man as his 2nd wife; he already had another family. Then they had one together .... that family (I've no idea of names/how many etc) have ended up at nearly 30 grandchildren somehow... so probably/maybe counts from kids from both marriages (but I've no idea).

I'm guessing my cousin's husband's kids from his first marriage are nothing to me.
