Weather's vile, just popped out to stick some fuel in the car as I've decided to travel tomorrow and not to head off into the 90mph winds they're predicting for Monday.

Mum and Dad are doing the same thing so I no longer have tomorrow afternoon to do the dusting, hoovering etc etc ... they've been warned!
Watching Nigel Slater on telly - is there anything that bloke doesn't have leftover? He's now making a fried pudding/dessert made from leftover Xmas pudding and leftover brandy sauce. Not that we'll have those two items in the first place, never mind leftover.

    He's SO annoying.

I reckon he cooks things just so he has the leftovers to make the leftover dishes. I never have leftovers like he does!

Fingers crossed for good news in the New Year, viva and hope you enjoy your poinsettias!!

    Lovely tree, PN!!

They'll be in plenty of time to muck in and help with the dusting and hoovering!

Not sure what you mean by a 2-3mm gap. Look at this picture as it shoes the horse shoe shaped wire. See there is a dimple on one side of the wire and the other side doesn't complete the circle. Where the circle doesnt complete, the ends bend down or in. It is these 2 ends that you squeeze together. that makes the circle smaller and the wire drops out. So the bulb follows it (still attached) as there is nothing holding it in. It should drop down a few inches, so you can change the bulb easily.

I have those and wanted to replace the horseshoe shaped wire. When I removed it to get the bulb out, the wire pinged across the room and I couldn't find it. Kind of like the garden waste guide plastic sheet thingy, I couldn't find out what the thing's called. No shop could do it. Found it on top of a set of walll cupboards.

PN if you run your fingernail around the inside of the fitting you'll find two bent bits of wire jutting towards you. Press them together and you'll see the wire becoming visible - now covering the whole fitting with cupped hands pull the horseshoe-shaped wire out. The bulb should now be easy to gently pull or twist out.

  • OH's marathon prep is going well - he's done two 13 mile runs each week for the last 4 weeks, and says he feels great. I think he needs to eat more, though, his jeans are getting very loose, and he certainly doesn't need to shed any weight.

The house we got gazumped on 7 years ago is back on the market. At 177% of what we paid for it. As far as I can see it has had a coat of paint and not much else. Kitchen hasn't changed and no bathroom photos - so I assume they also haven't changed.

As soon as I saw it, the inner me said "I want". :(

I have been told I am not allowed to want to buy it. :( And of course it makes no sense to move a short distance for a house that is roughly the same as this. But it us lovely and modern and I yearn for that. But it would be a complete waste of stamp duty, estate agent fees, hassle....

I don't know what to do about this heating. I set it to how I know it works, where it says "twice" - and comes on twice a day. I turned down the dial on the boiler itself for the radiator temp - and I've been running round all the radiators for 2 hours making sure they're all on and all on as low as they'll go .... and I can hardly breathe it's so hot. So I've manually turned the heating off again.

I don't like leaving things running when I am not in..... so stuck between choosing to let it come on/go off for X hours/day .... and turning it off entirely.

If I turn it off .... would it turn itself on in event of the temperature going super-low (which the weather reports don't seem to indicate will happen)?

Not to mention that you know they're taking the P155 with the price.

My friend took a drunken bet one Christmas that he couldn't do the marathon that year. He did the marathon and got hooked on exercise, so moved onto triathlons. He used to go out running a marathon every evening after work. Nutter.
  • OH has already done triathlons. So his progress is the other way round!
