I'm impressed by the swimmers. I get out of breath swimming. I just don't breathe deeply enough.
Any tips from the experts? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I played with that calculator and a basic salary of £20-21k would give me about a median position.0

Oops. Had put the wrong numbers in. Have corrected my post now. It seems much more realistic.
In my defence, I can only say that my income comes in so many little bits and pieces, some taxed and some not, some monthly and some 4-weekly, etc, that it's easy to make a mistake adding it up.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
True. But for those that opt for them, school fees only get more and more expensive as they get older, I'm afraid, NDG.
Sixth form fees would be a lot less than primary school fees + nanny. Definitely.I'm impressed by the swimmers. I get out of breath swimming. I just don't breathe deeply enough.

Breathing's good. I strongly recommend it.
In the Scillies a couple of summers ago, OH swam from St. Martin's to Tresco. It's not that far, but there's a very strong tidal pull, and waves and lots of rocks to cope with, too. He was accompanied for most of the way by a seal, who was clearly confused about what OH was doing and why he was making such a meal of it....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Oh of course. Sorry. I was forgetting that you were paying fees and childcare simultaneously. Most of the parents I know are only paying one or the other. I'm now only paying for one child at after school club, but I do remember when DS was at nursery and DD was with a childminder (although only 3 days a week).Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I am not a great swimmer, I can swim about a mile and then stop. That's in a pool, no currents. I do however practice doing a bit with arms only, a bit with kick only and so on. However if floating was an Olympic sport I could spend all day doing that. So I'd swim about a mile, have a rest, swim another mile, have another rest; all along hoping that I hadn't drifted into a shipping lane. Not a good idea I think and something I wouldn't want to try unless my life depended on it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Just think. When you have two, you'll be saving money, in theory. Have another and you'll save even more!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I struggle to get out of breath swimming, which is why I stopped swimming so much for my cardio work when I was fit.
Edit....hmm, might be a goer now though. I might struggle for self esteem going swimming now though, lol.0 -

I did it for a couple of years when I was off work, and really enjoyed it!
We had those buoyant tubular lengths of foam which are good at helping with some exercises, at whatever level of confidence you are.
Hope you enjoy it too0 -

Me too.. I'm not really worried about enjoying it so much as getting some exercise.
I need to buy a more supportive swimwear if I go for it. And a hat.0
