Have Advents taken over anyone else's life?!

Good point rugmaker - never thought of that unless one comper volunteers to check a certain advent daily and post up comps when they occur.
By the way rugmaker, do you make rugs!? Sorry it is one of those questions that always runs through my mind when I see your name! I'm intrigued!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
I do, but only as a hobby and only very occasionally now. I made more when I first started signing up to forums that needed a username and have kept it because it is usually free on most sites that need a sign up!
What little free time I have these days is much more likely to go on comping than rugs!0 -
Lovely! I too am creative - mostly tapestries and cross stitch! I am sad to admit I do it less since joining MSE and taking on comping as an additional hobby!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

I have thought about trying cross stitch but I have very poor hand control. I could probably cope with the stitching but I find threading needles almost impossible.0

I don't seem to have time for many advents - by the time I've done the mags, dailies & ending comps I've used up most of my time> Last year I won every day on the advents & all I've won this year is discount vouchersproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

I took a conscious decision at the start of advent that I would try to keep up with mag dailies, click to wins and advents, and view any main board comps I got to as a bonus.
I would definitely do it this way again. I've only got to the main board on a couple of days, but I've had 2 really good advent wins so far. Taking the pressure off myself at the outset has definitely helped.
Most evenings I start on the advents wondering if this will be the day I have to go to bed without finishing them, but I've managed all I'm doing every day so far.0 -
There are two reasons why the advent thread has remained relatively unchanged in recent years - 1. because it's the simplest way to work it and 2. because people come up with new ideas, but have no intention of implementing them.0

But at what point in the day could you assume that someone else has already checked a site and because no comp is posted there must not be one? I suspect this would mean quite a lot of early morning compers all checking the same sites. At the moment at least you can see when someone else has checked and posted no comp.
Also not sure how this could work in the advent thread unless whoever is running it replaces all the links in the list every single day.
What might be workable is if each person starting a thread for an advent updated the first post in the thread each day for that day's prize and link, if that were possible.
I think there is a good idea here, but it needs a bit more thinking through.
Most advents are posted by certain people, who then go on to post each subsequent day anyway.
If a new thread is posted for each day's competition then would the Advent Thread still be needed? Perhaps it could just be more of a list of who will post each advent, without the need to link to each thread each day.0 -

looking forward to seeing u volunteer for that role next year!!:rotfl:There are two reasons why the advent thread has remained relatively unchanged in recent years - 1. because it's the simplest way to work it and 2. because people come up with new ideas, but have no intention of implementing them.

That's exactly the point I was making. Nobody is going to take that on.0
