Have Advents taken over anyone else's life?!

This is my first year adventing and I didn't really know what to expect but overall I am slightly disappointed. I only do the web advents, which on some days are discounts rather than prizes and it looks like the advents have replaced all the usual comps which were generally better prizes. I never used to do my comping at home, it was all done at work during breaks but now I find myself picking up the IPad first thing in the morning and at weekends just to keep myself afloat. I've won any advent gifts yet (discounting Stella prizes) which I know is to be expected, I just hope its worth it and something appears!

The one change I hope might happen next year is that instead of listing each site's advent in one thread that each competition is listed individually each day.

To me an advent is just a series of once only entry competitions where the time to enter is one day only. Any other time of the year then I think each competition would get posted separately.

Now I know that people will say that this means there is far too much work involved but I feel far more people will save time by skipping advents where the prize that day does not interest them and will allow people to see the bigger prizes on advents which they might have overlooked (I believe weeowens did post up a thread indicating some larger prizes in an obscure advent).

The threads for the advents get bumped each day anyway with details of the prize and answer if applicable, so surely not too much of a stretch to just post a new thread instead.

I think the excitement of the advents kind of means that the definition of the competition (is it once only entry, daily, weekly etc) gets a little lost.

That is a good idea! I am subscribe to many advents which have a mixture of offers and prizes - if each comp was listed separately rather than bumped with the new day, then less time would be wasted visiting each site/page.

This is my first time doing comps and yeah they have taken over my life although I don't have any particular order etc to do these it takes even more time I usually work 2-11pm and normally would need to wake up about 12pm in order to get ready and go to work.

For the past 2 weeks I've been waking up at 9-10 and spending my time doing comps and then doing the same thing on my phone on the way to work and on my lunch and in the evenings too!

Just to add that I mean no disrespect to any of the advent posters and obviously grateful for all your work I just wrote what I have experienced this year.

If someone is updating an advent thread each day, then rather than do that, they can post the new day as a new post on the main board. So it wouldn't be any more work - just posting in a different place :j

and if it's just a discount there would be nothing to post (in some cases that's been over half the time).

(although on the minus side it is quicker to add a post to an existing thread than it is to create a new one)

Yes no discounts would be posted so in the long run, it would be less time consuming because the poster wouldn't have to post 'no prize today - discount' :T

But at what point in the day could you assume that someone else has already checked a site and because no comp is posted there must not be one? I suspect this would mean quite a lot of early morning compers all checking the same sites. At the moment at least you can see when someone else has checked and posted no comp.

Also not sure how this could work in the advent thread unless whoever is running it replaces all the links in the list every single day.

What might be workable is if each person starting a thread for an advent updated the first post in the thread each day for that day's prize and link, if that were possible.

I think there is a good idea here, but it needs a bit more thinking through.
