  • Is it worth adding another sentence after the above such as:

The cost of sending out an automatically generated template letter and paying a small fee to the DVLA is hardly likely to amount to a sum of this magnitude.
Perhaps you could try to use my arguments I posted here some weeks ago:
These 53 GBP per case seem to be a very high estimation:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4811121
So this means that they had costs of GBP 9.43m in the year to 31 Aug 2012 and their estimated costs in the year to 31 Aug 2014 will be GBP 17.7m. So their costs in the year between may be some 13 million GBP.

On the other hand they have "bought" 725,657 keeper data from the DVLA between 1 Okt 2012 and 30 Sep 2013:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4796479

The costs per case should then be about 18 GBP.

Of course this includes the running costs (erecting signals, installing maintaining ANPR), so their average "losses" should be even more smaller. And if the motorists pay up after the first letter, then the "loss" will be essentially smaller than the average loss.
Does anybody know what is the reason for the disrepanca between the 53 GBP in the letter of Parking Eye and the 18 GBP of my calculation?
Fraud? Or are 65 % of the original tickets cancelled? What is the reason for the cancellation? Lottery? Or are these the charge notices to motorists who can prove that they are genuine costumers of the landowner?
  • Very interesting GK, thanks!

Which boxes do people normally tick for the reasons why they are appealing? I'm looking at what I've got to do to send this thing off and wasn't sure which would be the most appropriate one to go for or which one everyone else who's been successful has ticked.

I've just tried to submit it now only to find that the !!!!!!!s have sent me an invalid POPLA code!

It checks out as valid using the Parking Cowboys POPLA code checker, that was the first thing I did when I got it. So what now? I've tried phoning PE but all I get from them is automated messages about how to pay their extortionate charges. I've got 11 days left!

if that was in Firefox, try IE or OPERA or CHROME or SAFARI or AVANT or SLIMBROWSER

the firefox issue is a known problem (no idea why so dont ask)
  • No it was Internet Explorer.

I've tried it several times again and have finally got into the page where I can start filling in my details. However it's already filled in with someone else's name - is that normal?

no, in which case it may be a valid code but somebody elses code

you may need to send it by post, complain to the BPA and to PE and maybe send in an email to popla too

its either a typo or somebody is taking the mick
  • It's showing a different name to mine with a phone number that has an area code followed by 123 4567 which looks as if it's probably just dummy data. Can anyone verify that for me?

    This makes no sense.

Back to basics - I assume you are certain you entered the code correctly...and is your POPLA code 10 digits (all numbers) starting something like 6060034xxx ?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Yes, I entered the code correctly and I've managed to get in now but I don't know why it didn't work first time. The problem now is that there's someone else's name , email address and phone number already filled in. It could just be dummy data though but I'm reluctant to go ahead with it in case I've got someone else's code. I've emailed POPLA for clarification and will phone them as well tomorrow so I'll report back when I know more.
