Beware Argos gift voucher scam

When I got one of these promo vouchers last week the sales assistant told me when it would expire and I had to sign the receipt to acknowledge I'd been told of the expiry date. So I wonder if they've had a few complaints about this and have changed their procedures.

So, at a guess, if the OP had looked online in August they would have seen a similar page of information, with the relevant dates on it.

They run this offer quite often. It usually gives the validity dates in the newspaper ads as well.

Um, no, they very clearly did NOT say that. They said they could see "what can be taken as a date". They could see a date.
But the black rectangle was "obscuring any indication that this might be an expiry date". A black rectangle was obscuring something or nothing, we don't know what, if anything, it was obscuring, but it was not obscuring something that can be taken as a date.

Therefore the date was visible. What is difficult to understand about that?
