Beware Argos gift voucher scam

Can you tell me how what I received wasn't a true gift voucher?
By saying it's not a true voucher you're implying it's not real.
If you mean did I specifically buy it then no.
If you mean it was a fake then no, it's not.
If you mean it was part of a promotion then yes, but why is it then not real?

Again to clarify. I believe voucher received as part of one of the offers, pay over £100 get £10 voucher. So voucher not bought, it was a thank-you from Argos for spending money with them.
So the receipt would have been a receipt for the goods purchased. Why would I have reasonable cause to believe information about a voucher was on that receipt, as voucher not purchased as such?
Information about the voucher I would reasonably expect to be on the voucher. It wasn't. Or should I say wasn't shown. As in a post above it was hidden, unclear, unintelligible, ambiguous.
Yup. Seen those offers and noted the short dates on them
which is why I dont really go for them unless the original price is good0 -

Should you also have asked if the gift card will burst into flames after 30 minutes in your pocket? And if you don't, it's your fault that your bits get burnt because you didn't ask?
However, I agree with the suggestion that the OP take this further with Argos if the 'blacked-out' information on the voucher should have shown a date.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
You say that the OP did not have certain things, I point out that the OP has already stated they didn't look at the receipt, so how do you know for certain that the information was not printed there?
The OP also stated in the first post that there was "what can be taken as a date" well, the OP hasn't shared the image, or told us what was printed there was it a series of numbers, words, we don't know.
They also say there was a black rectangle obscuring any indication that this might be an expiry date"
What was the black rectangle obscuring? Was it obscuring part of the date, or obscuring some possible text? Was it stuck on the card, or part of the card design? Again, we don't know for certain what was obscured, nor do we know what else was on the back of the card.
So, the facts are: the OP got given a voucher, threw out the paperwork which came with it, didn't think to check, and is being vague about pertinent information.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Well, I'm not sure what my "condition" is, but I go back to my earlier post - you say that the OP did not have certain things, I point out that the OP has already stated they didn't look at the receipt, so how do you know for certain that the information was not printed there?
I wrote "the OP didn't get two of those three things".
They've said they weren't told by the staff.
They've said there was a black box on the voucher where the date should be.
At no point has anyone doubted that it was on the receipt; only whether the receipt is a sensible place to put terms and conditions of sale.
I can't see what is so difficult to understand there.0 -
All the OP wanted, and myself, is the expiry date clearly put on the card. Mine didn't have one on it at all. I believe the date should be on all gift cards from all retailers, not just the promotional ones issued by Argos. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

So OP gets given a FREE voucher, doesn't use it and let's it expire, then complains of their negligence to simply check the expiry date.

OH bought a laptop from Argos last week and was given a giftcard as part of the offer. The assistant made a point of saying that it expired Christmas Eve and don't forget to spend it.
With that in mind I looked through £10 gifts, chose something for one of the kids for Christmas and spent it asap.0 -
I didn't work in Argos but I do remember when I worked in retail we were told by the RM when we did till training that if we handed out a voucher for whatever reason, we HAD to tell the customer how long it was valid for. I remember it being quite a big deal!
Would definitely say that you should have been told OP, most people have to.First home purchased 09/08/2013
New job start date 24/03/2014

My advice is if you still have the voucher take it to your local argos and appeal to the good nature of the manager. Yes you should have been told at the till point the expiry date (and probably were and just dismissed it as non-important) or maybe you weren't. The date does print on the back but sometimes printers don't always print straight or are too faint to read. So speak to the manager like a person and say you weren't made aware of the expiry date and it is not clear enough on the back of the card and would they replace the card for you, either that or speak to customer services and ask the same.
The most important thing is to be nice to the people you deal with as they are a lot more likely to help you rather than someone who comes in ranting and shouting about how the shop is trying to "scam" you out of your money, Because a scam this is not.0
