I do think that if this was one of the "gift ones" {£10 for spending £100 ect} then it SHOULD be down to the cashier that gives it to you to inform that there is a time limit with them. Over the years I have taken up this "offer" many times and give my Argos their due they have ALWAYS indicated the time period that I have to use them.
OK I know that I do not use Argos on a weekend or on a run up to Christmas when the shop is busy and it is not the temp staff serving but I cannot fault my store for the information that they {at least} pass on to me

So voucher not bought, it was a thank-you from Argos for spending money with them.

:rotfl: No it wasn't, it's a marketing ploy to dupe you into believing that you are getting something for nothing and entice you into their shop.

Ok, but some people do really think like that. ;)
  • Even if so, I would suggest that

Yeah but at the end of the day there's no such proven legal defence as "Thumbremote would suggest"!

For years people have been warned to check vouchers for expiry dates or if in doubt ask in the store. At some point you do have to take responsibility for your own life.

Could it have been clearer? Yes. Was it there? Yes. Was it a 'scam'? No, it was failings with both the supplier and customer.

Thumb remote responded to that post before the op explained these weren't true gift vouchers.

Can you tell me how what I received wasn't a true gift voucher?

By saying it's not a true voucher you're implying it's not real.

If you mean did I specifically buy it then no.
If you mean it was a fake then no, it's not.
If you mean it was part of a promotion then yes, but why is it then not real?

Again to clarify. I believe voucher received as part of one of the offers, pay over £100 get £10 voucher. So voucher not bought, it was a thank-you from Argos for spending money with them.

So the receipt would have been a receipt for the goods purchased. Why would I have reasonable cause to believe information about a voucher was on that receipt, as voucher not purchased as such?

Information about the voucher I would reasonably expect to be on the voucher. It wasn't. Or should I say wasn't shown. As in a post above it was hidden, unclear, unintelligible, ambiguous.

These are promotional vouchers that are obtained ONLY because of the receipted transaction so, of course, they ARE related.

When running these promotions, there are clear terms and conditions shown on display in the store and on their website which give the period of validity of the vouchers along with the minimum spend etc.

You made assumptions without checking the facts.

Argos is a business, there to make a profit. These vouchers are a promotion to encourage rapid repeat custom - hence the short date.

It's not any sort of scam - it just requires reading the Ts & Cs and using some personal planning.

    You're getting silly now...

The voucher was given ONLY because you made a purchase over £x.

Argos supplied the voucher as an offer of a future discount to the value of £x provided you used it according to the conditions applicable.

You missed the date... Time to move on.
