  • Just de-lurking to say I hope you are feeling better Lilt.

Really considering a fit bit now after all the chitter chatter on here but not sure which to go with between the flex and the charge ... Any info gratefully received.

Also for you guys that already own a Fitbit do you know that you can change the distance readings into miles ? Apparently you need to go into settings and change your height into feet & inches and then it converts distance from km to miles - hope that makes sense.

Lorraine I blooming LOVE you!! I tried and tried to work that out and could I? :rotfl:

I have only had my fitbit charge for 2 days but I am in love! For me, it was worth the extra money because with two taps of my finger I have a watch on my wrist all of the time!

I wasn't worried about the Flex being colour changeable for fashion purposes so discounted that as a reason to go with it. I also discounted the charge HR as frankly I don't need to know my heart rate as I don't do anything more energetic than walking to work and back.

The flex shows you how close you are to your personal target (you can amend it from steps, to calories burned, to floors climbed, whatever you want to focus on and you can also obviously change those goals i.e. from 10k steps to 15k... It doesn't have a digital display, just 5 lights across the front. These also tell you how charged it is etc. It is quite simple but makes the app all the more necessary to view your stats in facts and figures.

The charge shows you the stats on the app too, but there is a button on the side which clicks through in order, Time, Steps, Distance, Calories Burned, Floors climbed, and for me it also shows me when my next alarm is set to go off. Monday at 7am just so you know ;) It also vibrates when you receive a phone call, and when you hit your target!!

Best of all it tracks your sleep! None of them are any more waterproof than the others particularly. Only good for showers and splashing, not the shower/swimming etc.

    Hope this helps!! xx

Ruth your poor sister. I struggle with paragons and sulphates in almost anything these days but body shop stuff that was supposedly free still set me off. I have an ongoing allergic attack to the artichokes. At first I couldn't even brush my teeth without getting a fat lip!! I take 3 anti-histamines minimum a day

P.S Mayonnaise? How odd.... The human body is a wonderful and diverse machine

I do use Endomondo but it doesnt link to Bounts, so am using Strava alongside E for the time being. Think I might move over to Strava completely in future, it links to mfp as well as Bounts so would save me running both. Theres a thread on mse somewhere about Bounts and a referral thread if you wanted to give it a go.

  • Body Shop uses ALS instead of SLS I think, my sister reacts to that too...Faith in Nature is a good brand for being yuck free...you need to go to a health shop to find the chemical free stuff.

Also, Sensodyne Pronamel is the only toothpaste brand I've found that has flouride and is SLS free.

HTH....unsolicited advice from me as always ;)

Glad I was of some use to the fit bit gang ;)

Thank you Lilty for that comparison, the charge sounds much more appropriate for me. Now to start the budget juggle to see where I can squeeze the extra pennies (well pounds actually) from.

On another cheeky note can you point me in the direction of any good websites for the ketogenic diet for migraines? I really feel your pain as u write about them as unfortunately i suffer with daily chronic migraine following meningitis 6 years ago and I am literally at the end of my tether with them - the only medical intervention left to try is 48 botox injections in my head & neck or surgical severing of the opcipital nerve :( neither of which are appealing

If you have a referral send it to me and I will have a look, thanks for the help/info. I use MFP as well (when I can be disciplined enough!) so would be quite good!!

Super useful advice. You're like me, a wealth of crazy information. We rule at pub quizzes ;)

 that sounds horrific and precisely what is next up on the 'to-do' list for my spine, although a different nerve!!! As for a daily migraine... I would have given up by now. You must be exceptionally strong.

I will PM you. I have a diet starter pack that I can happily email across to you and you could download. It is literally a 4 week diet, although I am not convinced I would do weeks 3-4 as they involve fasting and that is not something i do well with.

The basic premise for ketogenic is to eat a predominantly (75%) FAT based diet, with less than 5% carbs (which are even in vegetables, especially carrot, sweetcorn & peas) and the remainder protein. The website I linked there has a shedload of research which I used to work out how much protein based on my body weight/height I should be eating. The first week is hard, but if you get through the sugar cravings and headaches (salt and water) then you suddenly get this rush of energy and it works wonders for morale. I am doing well!!

It takes 6 weeks for it to start working on migraines and my Doctor basically said it is great for epilepsy (which my migraines are a relic of) and migraines. The reason for this as far as science can work out is that carbohydrates cause raised blood sugars and insulin to bring this down. This causes instability in the brain and stress which provokes the migraines. By turning your body into a machine that burns fat for fuel and keeping your insulin levels barely there, you are reducing the stress until your brain functions much better and the migraines stop.

HTH!! PM me for the plan and if you want any other info! xxx

I've found using Bounts has def helped keep me motivated to train for my tri (albeit so far theres no way to get credit for swimming unless the pool is one of the ones which allow points for a check in), mfp is still going slightly by the wayside but I need to get back in to that habit so I can lose the weight I gained over the last few months to get back in to my wetsuit before I head for the Open Water swim centre near by!
