Lol.....i have been very tempted a few times to get an ice-cream maker.
Then thought NO..!!......dont do it.....you'll end up on the local news due to someone having to remove the entire bay window or side of your house to get you out.
Ideal job for me.........food critic....lol
I have already scouted the menu of the place i'm taking mum xmas eve for lunch and don't fancy any of the desserts so will be asking for the chestnut ice-cream that i'll know they have in the freezer....Yumm.
Yes Morwick farm was one mentioned by a friend.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
lovely heart warming thread, I hope it has inspired other people facing the same situation.0

I don't mean to promote my own post but I started a thread on the England Forum for ideas of places for a day out, coffee stops etc. in the North East area. You may be interested since you're in the North East?

(I think I should have put it on the Days Out thread but no one has moved it:o)
I'm afraid that a day out isn't a treat these days unless a cheese scone or pub lunch isn't included! Maybe I should be joining those joggers on the beach....The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Please and Thank You are the magic words;)0 -
We've been saying today how c**p Christmas can be for people who are on their own, when everyone is force fed families and happiness - when in fact most people are probably falling out!. My own family problems in the past mean that this is the first time for probably 20 years when I've actually looked forward to Christmas. We're not buying any presents, having any visitors or doing anything other than have a quiet week at home.
I'd say think about what you enjoy doing and then do it! If you like the company of people go out and find some. Everyone is so stiff upper lipped - you'll often find that if you reach out your hand and ask, many people will be glad to take it.
Do some voluntary work to get out and about with people, or maybe some community clean up work (beach clean or litter pick). What about helping a charity out - ask at your local volunteer organisation - most places have them. They'll have a list a mile long where you can help. Trust me, I Chair a very tiny charity that looks after a bit of beach and we always need extra people to help.
If it all gets tough, remember that it's just another week, and life will be back to normal soon x0 -

Thanks, Chuck! a very useful thread...The Running Fox isn't very far from me, and again, I keep forgetting about it. I hadn't heard of Paxton House so will be looking into that for next year. You sound like you get out and about a lot. Good on yer!:A :T0 -
A quick update... I dropped a card through my nice neighbour's door the other evening, inviting her to join me on a wee day out and lunch next Sunday, and this evening, I got home to find a lovely card accepting my invite.
Isn't that lovely?
I doubt I'd have had the confidence if it hadn't been for the positivity of this thread.0 -
That is lovely. I expect she was really happy to be asked, sometimes it just takes someone to be brave enough to make first move. Well done, I hope you have a great day.0

LB, you have created such a great thread, and it looks as if you are heading instead for a Singularly Lovely Christmas! Good for you; hope you have a very happy time. xx0

Thanks LB for starting this thread. It's looking like DD and DS may be with their dad on New Year's Day (for the first time in 12 years!). If that happens I've found a local charity that has a centre providing hot meals and company for homeless folk over Christmas and New Year. Depending on what he's planning (unlikely to be much more than a couple of hours...), I think that if they can make use of me it's better than sitting at home alone (kind of a selfish action but if it helps someone else as well as me I hope it's not a bad thing to do).0
