A Singularly Lonely Christmas

I love how well this thread has turned out. This year has been tough for OH as his father disowned him (along with me and the children). Thankfully my family are very close and we are spending Christmas with them and my brother's in-laws (12 people in all)
We don't celebrate NYE, usually watch Big Fat Quiz of the Year and Netflix.
I definitely think some nice little presents to yourself would be lovely. Maybe write a wishlist on little bits of paper and pull 5 out of a hat to choose what you'll get.0 -
Thanks, ShropshireLass, I enjoyed my Xmas cake with you yesterday. I had mine with Bailey's ice cream, but don't tell Calicocat or she'll ransack my freezer.... :rotfl: It was bloomin lush...might have some for supper tonight....
You're right though, we are already over the darkness hump and heading back into daylight. I'd forgotten that! What a positive thought to hang on to. Can't say I noticed it was lighter for longer tonight...maybe a nanosecond
As for treating myself to some pressies, I have to say that I have been overwhelmed at the number of presents sent to me by far flung friend. The postie has beaten a path to my door all week...which is so lovely, I can't tell you. And lovely Calicocat also surprised me with a parcel too, which my cats really like the look (or smell?) of. People can be so very kind :A. As I was saying to far flung friend the other night, it's not honestly whatever the parcels contain that is important; it really is just the pure fact that someone has thought enough of you to take time to try to make you feel better. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the gestures of both these lovely ladies :A
As for being talkative, well, I met a lady for lunch today who out talked even me and Calicocat. Wouldn't have thought it possible...:rotfl:
Had a lovely lunch at Meldon Park (for anyone near enough to visit). Really nice little place, beautiful conservatory, gorgeous walled garden, lovely service, good food. Very glad I made the effort to go out today.
Had to have a wee nap when I got home...sign of age?...suspect this is setting the pattern for the holiday - eat, sleep, bit more eating, (oh, who am I kidding, a LOT more eating), sleep....:o
Weather will be grot tomorrow for all of us, by the sound of it, so I am revamping my plans - will visit the care home and garden centre in the morning, then light the fire and stay warm and cosy (and probably asleep). Then, as the weather looks nicer for Xmas Eve, am planning a walk across the fields here to get some fresh air and exercise before making a scrumptious mixed platter supper.
I really fancy cauli and bacon cheese tomorrow evening...I have everything in but cheddar cheese....could there be a worse tragedy
Hope you're all doing well, managing to relax ??

Sniff sniff sniff.....
Do I sniff ice-cream being had..I will hunt you down and find your freezer.
So glad you had a lovely lunch today, and she was better at talking than you...or me...? well I take my hat off then to her.
To be honest LB, if you haven't already opened present cat is after you have way more restraint than me.
I have had a pretty horrific day, a friend has been in a very bad place, I have been totally stressed out, but things seemed to have calmed now.
Re: Nana naps as they are apparently called either these days or up here (after years of being NE still getting used to the lingo) We are way over the age some doing this it seems, so we shall be fine and it is acceptable at our age.xYep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Dear Lavenderbees,
Only just found this thread tonight and I would have sent you a gift for Christmas day if I had seen it earlier.
I'm so glad that you have found friendship on here and received some pressies off kind people.
I don't like Christmas much since my mum passed away in 2009. I am spending it with my hubbie, my dad and my brother, but we all feel quite sad about it still and it's not the happy time we used to have.
We do it for mum as I'm sure she will be watching over us and your parents will be doing too.
Hope you get through the day ok and sending you lots of love and a big hug.

Oh gosh! No! No, I didn't say that about pressies to get more pressies. It's lovely of you to think about it, but honestly, I appreciate you dropping by very much. I don't need pressies (she says lying through her teeth :rotfl:)
It's nice to think of my lovely Dad watching over me. I think he'd be quite proud of my wee attempts to get my life back on track.
But try to enjoy a little bit of Christmas for yourselves, too. You all have each other, which is lovely, so celebrate that too, when you feel able. Big hugs back0 -

You're very welcome to ransack my freezer for ice cream, any time. It'll be an empty carton, though :rotfl:
Really sorry to hear you've had a tough time with your friend. I hope it all works out ok. I'm always around if you need a chat or if there's anything I can do to help.
Hope your mam is settling in at yours ok....

The dust-buster / clean-police is arriving tomorrow bless her.
To be honest utterly done in with full-on stuff today and could do with a sleep in not up and early.. ,nice to 'chat about other stuff on this thread.
What's with the boxing day?? Or have I missed a post? When I was a kid I can always remember being really impressed with a friends family who did at all in the evening not the morning. Even as a kid that seemed better to me.
Thank LB for the offer of being there, and I know you mean it, but wouldn't put this on anyone right now.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Boxing Day? I'm volunteering on Christmas Day so expect to only have time to get up, breakfast (heartily
), and then go...
Boxing Day will therefore be my Christmas Day. Looking forward to it. Psychologically, I will have got over the huge hurdle of missing loved ones on Christmas Day, and will be able to enjoy the day, I hope, wholeheartedly, and take my time.
Big Hugs, Calicocat, sleep well. Tomorrow is another day.

You're very kind, but it's only with help, and much encouragement and support from you all, that I'm managing to pick myself up from the low point I was at a few weeks ago. I feel I've come a long way in a few weeks though.
As long as I balance this sociability and wee bursts of activity with rest (as I'm easily exhausted these days), then I think that starting this thread just may be up there with one of the best things I've done
