A Singularly Lonely Christmas

Ha ha like the £35 spend when you only nip in for a little thing.
I did that the other day when I went in the local Co-op. I went in for a cheap bottle of wine and couldn't find what I wanted and somehow spent £21 on things I don't really need....
Yes the weather has been awful but not as bad as I've seen on TV, good grief it's terrible in some areas.
If I don't get to catch up on here, I hope all reading this has a lovely Christmas and Boxing Day. Even the cats

Yep, I'll be on every challenge going in January - from Grocery Challenge (to get my spending under control again) to losing weight the OS way (for fairly obvious reasons) :rotfl:
Have a lovely Christmas, Binnie. Drop by later in the week if you get the chance.

Hello lavender bees, I haven't read back to see how its going( please forgive me) but just wanted to s I hope its going ok so far.
I went swimming today ( first time in aGES taking advantages of a quiet pool ) but actually it was fairly with people who seemed to have gone by them selves..

This is why I do my shopping on line. Yes, there is no reduced stuff and I have to pay for delivery, but it stops me buying all the stuff I really didn't nip in for ... I'm hopeless for going in for a loaf and coming out with more than I can carry!0 -
Oh my it's leathering it down here and blowing a bit, and we are the part of the country that is supposed to be getting off light.
Dread to think what the rest of the place is having to endure. Stay safe Y'all.0 -
LB, have only just read your post & haven't gone all the way through - I hope you manage to get through 'the festivities'. Although much quieter on Christmas Day, there are many folk on MSE to have a chat to over the Christmas period & I see that you'll be volunteering on the day itself - well done you.
I know for experience that it can be really hard to get motivated for things and, if it's something you have to do, it's even harder than something you want to do. And, what's great about online communities - there's always someone to help or offer advice at any time of day
Good luck LB0 -
Thanks for your lovely good luck wishes, Chris. Happy Christmas to you!
It's going better than I would ever have expected, Lostinrates, much better really.
Today, I was listening to R2 while I tidied around a bit, and they played Cliff Richard and Daddy's Home, so I had a bit of an unexpected sob. So sugary and sacchrine sweet, but the sentiments really hit me this morning, and still are to some extent. But I find I can have a wee cry, and still get on with things, too.
The weather this morning was sunny and bright, but very breezy, and I managed to get my narcissi bulbs planted. I've put the container in my fireplace in my bedroom so I can watch them grow over the next few weeks.
I also dressed my Christmas tree outside with the baubles I got half price yesterday. Really enjoyed doing that. Shame I can't get the bloomin lights to work. My dad would have been able to fix them for me....
I started to go for a walk but had to cut it short as the weather closed in - sleety yukkiness and gale force winds....horrible. But just as the snow started, I got to the farm on the outskirts of my village, and watched them bring in their camel to the shelter of the barn. Could it honestly have been a more biblical looking sight?I wish I'd had my camera with me!
So, now I'm watching "It's a Wonderful Life", as I also watch the sleet blowing around outside. My fire is driving me mad as it keeps getting blown out. But I've had a homemade snowball cocktail, and find I don't really care :rotfl:, obviously I have the alcohol measurements just right..
It's time to count my blessings, miss my parents, cuddle the furry-purries (my old-boy has just come to lick a tear from my cheek, bless him), and just ...well....just "be". It's the quiet time I've been dreading most, but I now know I have the strength to come through it pretty well, and with hope for a better year to come.
To anyone reading over the next day or so, whatever your circumstances, I wish you all the very best, and most lovely and peaceful Christmas.
In the words of the late great comedian, Dave Allen, "may your God go with you"

I wish you a Happy Christmas and a decent 2014!:beer:
I'm in the same boat, but sans pets (can't have them in my apartment). Expect to be helping recently discharged patients thrown out by the NHS (bless them) over the next few days.

Merry Christmas LavenderBees.
What an inspirational thread you started which I'm sure has inspired many.
Enjoy the bacon sarnie, try not to get brown sauce on the duvet. It's too wet to dry washing.

I have loved reading this thread. I think many of us have re learned what the true spirit of Christmas is from it.
I will be in the the thick of it with family tomorrow but there are several important people missing so the day is always poignant, but I try not to let it show.
And we have a family funeral on Friday, of a lovely lady (not a very close relative, a cousin, but still, it serves to remind us vividly that this is a sad time for many)
I hope you enjoy your day and whilst you may be physically alone there are many who will be with you in spirit.
Happy Christmas.0
