Recommendations for 'Coffee Stops' in the North East please?

Hopefully Spring is on it's way and I'm hoping for some days out with OH. We like a mooch around markets, stately homes, charity shops, garden centres and a nice coffee stop. (Clean with pleasant staff and not too dear if possible)
I wondered if anyone could give me their personal recommendations please?
There's a wonderful thread with lots of info for Glasgow. I wondered if we could do the same for the North East. I'm thinking of Yorkshire to the Borders roughly, which is about our limit on a day out!

Betty's in York for tea. The little cafe in the metro at tynemouth is nice. Spurellis in amble one on corner in middle of road on main street in Alnwick

Thanks Sharnad, I'll add them to my list. (We often visit the Sunday market at the Metro station at Tynemouth) It's nice to have some recommendations for coffee when you're visiting a different town isn't it?
Good luck with your weight loss, I'm trying too but can always find room for a cheese scone!:o
One of our favourites is Birkheads Secret Gardens near Stanley. You can have coffee sitting on the terrace and enjoy the views for miles. (Not far from Beamish Open Air Museum which now does an annual ticket for about £16, a bargain if you live locally and can visit often.:))

Thanks it's at 62 pound now. If there are any other towns tou are interested in just tell me and I will try to remeber there is a nice one at crashed pretty recent opposite jolly fisherman pin and there is a nice one at blaydon. Where farm shop is. Also have you been to brockbushes next to corbridge turn off main road next to a roundabout tht do nice pies quiche and cakes

There is a nice place in Jedburgh just past abbey up the next street which is cheap

Gosh, just realised that's over 4 stone! Well done, I lost a stone then stuck maybe I should be looking for local gyms instead of coffee shops!
Did you mean Blagdon Farm shop at Seaton Burn or is there something at Blaydon too please? I haven't been to Brockbushes for ages, thanks for the reminder. While searching for info on Blaydon I found this website, which might be useful: http://www.cosycoffeeshops.co.uk/2007/08/brambles-coffee-shop-shincliff.html I hadn't heard of this garden centre at Shincliff Durham. Visited on Saturday and was well impressed. Lovely garden centre and coffee shop. Plenty of parking and located next to the river Wear so I think that you could probably fit in a little walk from there too!

Pleased to help. I found an 'organic' butcher near me and a place that delivers organic veg which I am going to investigate. (I used to live about half a mile away from them and didn't know about it!) Isn't 'tinternet wonderful?

Just remembered a lovely little cafe which is about halfway up Newgate St in Morpeth on the left. You have to look for it as it's through an archway, behind the shops. They do lovely traditional cooked lunches as well as the usual tea/ coffee/ cake/ scone assortment at reasonable prices. The staff are always friendly and efficient. It's always been busy when we've been, which is a good sign!
While you're there check out a community garden a couple of yards further on. A lovely spot to relax in if you want a quick break from the shopping and prefer to take your own lunch! (Sorry, can't remember the name of the cafe but there is usually a sign on the main street to direct you)

I can recommend the cafe at the Bowes Museum in Barndard Castle.
You don't have to pay to go in the museum to get access.

If you get as far down as Co Durham/Yorkshire border, Mainsgill Tea Rooms and Farm Shop on A66 about 4 miles from Scotch Corner is lovely, great food/coffee/cakes and fabulous meat in the farm shop too.
