  • Regarding the Skipton Special Saver account, Money Saver Afahmaep has reported on another thread that they were politely informed by counter staff that Skipton HO had rung in the morning saying no more than 3 per customer.

Kazza, are you a he or a she?

I am a male in case anybody needs to refer to me! Having the new Skipton account called Special Saver is a bit confusing for me - each time I see that in a thread, I think somebody is talking about me but of course they are just referring to the Skipton account!

The reason I said that you could open multiple accounts with GBP 250 and then fund with just GBP 10 per month was in case anybody wanted to deposit a large amount of money now and use the Skipton Special Saver accounts like a 1 year fixed rate bond without any closure penalties provided they fund the accounts with GBP 10 per month each.

This is still a good deal though - you can open up 3 Special Savers and a Christmas Saver, saving GBP 1000 per month at 7.55%.
  • I have updated the first post with the above information and given a link to the Britannia website where the details are now available for their regular saver.

Note that their regular saver is operated by direct debit and the interest rate is fixed (not variable).

The Skipton Christmas Saver and Principality accounts are not yet on their websites.
  • Ooops, I seem to have blagged the system here.

I opened 4 on Monday and a further 4 on Tuesday. Just about to get my Xmas saver acount today. :j
  • Yes, I gather that Skipton are honouring the multiple accounts that were opened before the limit of 3 accounts per person rule.

Ray Wolfe, thanks for the links. I have included them in the first post of this thread and have used the information on those pages to put the correct terms and conditions in the first post.

Thanks for your thanks ... but I think you meant them for BLF ... now all we need is for BLF to thank me for pointing that out. ;-)
  • Thread updated: interest rate for Principality BS account is 7%, not 7.5%.

Abbey Regular Saver - Opening a new one. I've been told I can fund the saver the same month that it's opened, if I can get the standing order set up in time (which I can). This is not what it says in the t's and c's. But it's what I was told in branch. So this is what I will do.

Also the T's and C's say you have close the account by post. But I phoned up and they told me you could close in branch. And I went into my branch and they did close my previous account

Also the stuff in the t's and c's about you must set up a standing order between specific dates of the month is wrong as well. It actually means that you need to make sure payments are received within the right calendar month. I manually do payments to make sure they credit right at the start of the month. Interestingly enough on my abbey statement it says the payments received were standing order payments. But I know they were not!

Abbey are not impressing me with the fact that they contradict what they have in print to what it means in practice!
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Make sure you have it in writing from someone in the branch, rather than what someone said, as ammunition when things go wrong, guaranteed they will.

I have also noticed that things go through as Standing Orders when they definitely were not, as my transactions are manual as well.

I've just got £50 from them for their incompetence. My RS matured, went into the branch to close it - new computer system in place, girl and manager didn't know what to do, were reading the new bible while I waited some 40 mins. Eventually they said they coudln't give me a cheque but upon my suggestion I asked them to transfer the money into a current account I had with them. Before leaving I double checked with them, it was good money and I could transfer it online elsewhere when I got home. Yes said the manager. I did. 10 days later, letter from them saying I was overdrawn by that very same amount, it hadn't registered properly, followed by a phone call on a Sunday morning from Abbey asking me for my ID and date of birth over the phone. Of course I refused, asked for their number to return their call. The number they gave was not on Abbey's own website, but it was on saynoto0870.com website, but in any case as it was a Sunday it was for outgoing calls only. So wrote and complained about the service and questioned their integrity asking me for my ID over the phone, in this day and age when there are so many fraudsters etc. around. Not impressed.
  • The first post of this thread (which is the best bit!) has been deleted for some reason!

Luckily, I have a back-up from 31st October that I can use if necessary. (I would need to edit it a bit because of subsequent changes but essentially everything is there.)

Before I try and do that though - moderators are you able to restore the missing first post for me?
