From a technical point of view, android is the more versatile OS, more manufacturers support it, its backed by Google and is open sourced, hence will be more likely to receive faster updates and quicker developments

For apple, you pay a premium for the brand. Apple are less fussed about the technical aspects as their users are not as interested.

If you want pretty and shiny, but not worried about functionality, and are prepared to pay for it, go iPhone. If you want a decent piece of tech, go android. HTC one is currently being voted the top handset, battery is a bit naff, but if you can live with that its a bit of a powerhouse. Sony's latest handset the Z1 is good too

If you remove the iPhones, Which magazine's top three recommendations are the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and the HTC One X.

With an iphone you are paying for a brand name not extra functions or quality.

Personally I think owning an iphone says a lot about a person...

Or maybe they just prefer the way an iPhone works? I've tried other smartphones and just don't like them. I would happily buy something other than an iPhone if I tried one that I liked.

Personally I find your last statement says a lot more about you than owning a certain type of phone would...

    Good grief... How pathetic!

You judge someone by the phone they choose?

You are a bigot - and an un-informed one at that!

Im not paying just for the name or extra functions, I am paying for a phone I like, and like someone else mentions, I'm not interested in the technical side of it, as long as I can check my emails, make a phone call, text, use the odd app now and again with the ease of use I get with the iPhone, then I'm happy.

I really don't understand why people are turning this into an iPhone V's the rest of the mobile phone world! We aren't saying ones better than another.

Your last sentence actually says ALOT about you, you come across as very insecure by the way you judge people....;)

If he changes to something other than an iPhone then he'll lose all his apps. I'd suggest letting him choose for himself.

I have a nexus 4. Excellent phone for the money if you buy it outright IMHO. Obviously get the 5 now it's released, but I find them very good reliable phones with all the bells and whistles. Could do with better battery life though.
  • My OH has just got the Sony Xperia Z One. Its quite big, but he really likes it and I have to admit I do too! I have an iPhone 4S at the moment. I imagine I will stick with them just because I know it and have a MBP too. I do really like the Sony though. He had the Samsung S2 and I know people with the S3 and S4 and not one of them gives that good feedback at all. I feel Samsung have really taken a nosedive in the last five years :(

Sadly pretty well all smartphones have terrible battery life. They all boast of 25 hours standby or something but it becomes 3 or 4 hours if you actually *do* anything with them.

I disagree and think that post speaks absolute volumes about you instead. The fact you want to judge someone based on a gadget is really quite ridiculous. Its people like you that create such a materialistic society.

My iPhone is hands down better quality than any of the other phones I've had. My OH's two Samsung phones have both been incredibly poor. His Samsung Galaxy S2 died before its two year contract ended and Wifi hadn't worked for a good six months before despite being sent off for repair twice. I am the more clumsy of us so its not as though he used to drop it all the time.
