Hubby will have no job by the end of March :( but at least he has a couple of months to try and find something else.

Sorry to hear that :( I was in the same boat at the end of 2012 when I got made redundant. Get his CV up to speed and start applying for jobs NOW! I was lucky and got a decent payout so didn't have to work for a couple of months, and I didn't realise how tough the market was/is. I ended up taking a temp job (pretty low paid) to keep the bills paid and protect my savings, and then saw a vacancy advertised internally and was able to apply - I've been here for seven months now :D

I hope he finds something quickly ♥
On the saving potting side I'm a bit chuffed with myself. I have saved £83.63 from my weekly food budget, OH said I must of done it wrong as we have eaten very well all week.

We've been the same! I was panicking at the start of the month because I had less than £100 of the food budget left and don't get paid till the 18th, but that's not long now and we still have £56 left :D I'll be potting some of that on Thursday :D:D Meal planning has done us wonders and joining some of the NSD/Weekly Spending challenges.

To keep this on topic, I have potted 41p this morning and £4 in £2 coins into my jar for the summer :)

  • Hi everyone...

Not potted in a few days but £2.70 today.

Claireyfairy82 and moomin I totally agree... meal planning is ace!! Sticking to my overall budget and I get paid on Thursday and should still have money in bank AND haven't resorted to credit cards... this is the first time I can remember and the bulk of my overspending tended to be on food so have been batch cooking... have a 4 weekly meal planner which we've been sticking to. Meaning spending less and eating a lot lot healthier too :D

Any underspend I make on my food budget I'm throwing to the credit card though as I pay for my food by debit card so it doesn't get potted.

A very warm welcome back, andy.m! :D You'll see that I've had a change around of members and Nos as a lot of folk no longer come to MSE. So, if you could please swap your No over I'd be grateful, thank you.

A gold star for you, 32b3, a very nice welcome. :staradmin
I'm actually looking forward to saving for once! :)

So many people say that at the start, Madrabbitgirl, then take to it like ducks to water and - LOVE IT!! :j

A great idea about the newspapers, Meowhouse, why give that hard-earned cash over if you don't even really read them. We gave our up about 15 years ago, brilliant savings ever since! It's good to know there's such support at the chemo & RT club, amazing how the latter works in different parts of the body too. So..I take it you've had a good financial week, keep it up. ;)

Received a cheque for £210.37 refund from the tax office, so banked that today.

Congratulations on the refund, Kerry, wonderful news....especially for the pot!! :T

    Well done, nanto3girls........

    .....you also, Katey.

I'm hoping for the best with your DH, Emily, at least he has some time to look. :T

Marvellous news with your £50 saved, princess-angelica!!! :D

The rest did me a power of good thanks, Observer, see... :j

    Very good indeed, samtoby.

Don't worry, elizabunny, the word ALL covers everyone as we're all one big family. ;)

    Gwengeth, you're doing very well.

Have a wonderful time in France, AlwaysHappy, sound like you've almost paid for the journey with all those savings, fantastic!!!! :j

PLEASE NOTE everyone: It's time to change your numbers! You'll see there are LOADS less names and numbers now, but it's useless having folk on the list that no longer save with us. However, if old members return then you'll be made very welcome and can still have your name added and be given a new number. forums.moneysavingexpert.com Please change numbers ASAP folks.

If you've already updated your No, please could you kindly make sure it's correct as I made a blunder to start with!

    Very many thanks indeed.
    Sue x

Anyone wishing to join, please just ask, you're more than welcome, it's NEVER too late. There may be a lot of us, but don't be shy, we're a lovely lot, so come on in. :grinheart

  • On the saving potting side I'm a bit chuffed with myself. I have saved £83.63 from my weekly food budget, OH said I must of done it wrong as we have eaten very well all week. At the beginning of the month I batched cooked a huge amount of food, he helped too (mainly chopping).:D Every January we embark on the usual healthy eating escapade, we basically turn veggie for a month but end up feeling so much better that this usually lasts till about March. Well how cheap are veg at everyone's favourite supermarket (Ald!), and my cupboard was bursting with tinned beans, lentil and pasta etc. So we have been eating mainly from the freezer all week, with me cooking and freezing extra as I go.

Crikey! I am impressed! If it was left to me we wouldn't eat meat at all but OH likes it so I have to cook some for him which can be expensive. I like lentils in ready meals but don't know quite what to do with them to disguise them in home cooking as OH swears he hates them :( Any suggestions would be welcome as I would really like to save on the food budget a little. If OH can't tell the difference that would be great :D Otherwise I could just batch cook some lentil meals for me and freeze them :money:
AlwaysHappy, that sounds like a brilliant holiday. We would like to go to France in our motorhome and your tips are brilliant as we are always on a tight budget for holidays. Thank you!

Just popped to a neighbour's house and found 5p ...kerchink!

Dare not pot anything else today as I'm going with DD to hospital tomorrow so will need change for parking :(

Have a lovely afternoon all (a bit dark and chilly here) x
