Ah shoot! I thought I'd found a cunning ruse to take it easy for the month ;)

OK, so I better check in then: SFD yesterday (I always feel better to start the month on a SFD) and today is spends: office tea bags, card for friends who have new baby, CC payments.
    Total debt: [STRIKE]£9473.62[/STRIKE] £7,384.87 22% PAID

No no no can't do this without you two you are in and numbered!!! :T:T:T

Yay - thanks Kat, I reckon I can actually achieve it this month too! ;)

So. My first check in in that case :

    1. SFD 1/15 - hoping today will be one, need to post Ebay parcels but I have loads of stamps from the RM surveys so will use those.
    2. Food 0/£130. We have £100 in Tesco gift cards and I'm due £30 Morrisons vouchers from Sun perks, I hope that will be enough.
    3. “Spend” Money - £0/£90.
    4. Envelopes to be sorted tonight.
    5. Drop one Christmas outing/party - just turned down lunch with the office today (celebrating our cafe's new festive menu). Will look at my diary for others.
    6. £5 of your food budget will be spent on the local food bank. Already spent £2ish, getting some for work too so will achieve this.
    7. Batch cook now - no storage space for this but I don't like Christmas cake and will be making Christmas biscuits next week with DS, also got a lovely christmas muffin recipe for the big day.
    8. Get a notebook. Done. Will have a think about my five things. Number 1 is that I want to get our kitchen done (scheduled for January already), number 2 is to declutter the house and number 3 is to sort out a will and guardian for DS.
    9. Choose a debt free date. 31st December 2014.
    10. Spending will be kept to a minimum Yes miss!
    11. Lunch will be brought from home everyday. Already do this anyway.
    12. NO ENTRY to any sales in the month of DDD - Message received loud and clear!
Yesterday was a SFD - OH's birthday but his mum and dad paid for our lunch and I went to Primark but used £20 my mum had transferred for me to buy something.
    My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.

    Happy Monday all

Just a quick one, I am in-between work visits and have just popped home en route to next one to check up on kitty and cat... and have a brew.

Yeay Thrifty I think you've made the right decision re venue, it sounds lovely, and you won't regret it in the long run - sometimes you do have to take the long view...

SD already, despite best laid plans, as had to transfer £40 over to the petrol account as I have a long drive this pm and an empty tank. This usually just sorts itself out as I get expenses and put them straight in to petrol account and it never normally needs a top up, but there has been fewer work miles and more personal miles last month.. better keep an eye on that.

I realised last night that last month we lived off DH's wages and ALL OF MY WAGES went on debt. This is how it's going to be for the next 10 to 12 months if we want it paid off next year. It depends on what mood I am as to how this makes me feel. Either very pleased and proud that we are able to do this, and massively grateful that we both have jobs with descent pay that allows us to do this, or flippin annoyed that its not my debt, and I am working my b*** off at a very stressful job for no visible reward! I am going to go with the former feelings I think as they are nicer, kinder and feel better in my heart and head!

We have, for the first time since we started this journey in August, started to day dream about DFD and being 'post debt' already.. thinking about houses and plans and holidays... better keep focused though. Much to pay off.

Whoops, that wasn't quick was it? sorry!

    Right, back to the grind.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Afternoon!
Another spendy day here :-( needed to get some cheese. I do need to do a proper shop but as DH's ridiculous working hours are starting and so planning proper meals is useless as he isn't here so I am just going to eat with the children so we can all have the same, tonight is a mini roast dinner, tomorrow will be pasta bake.
I'm planning to batch cook some meals for the children but not sure what yet.

    Afternoon.

Erm... fell off the wagon kinda but I can explain (and then you can moan at me).
    ;)

    1) Didn't make a shopping list but still went shopping. As a result: I picked stuff that looked yummy but didn't really do anything (such as make a meal).
    :(

    2) Went to tescimos and they had an offer on chicken. Buy one large chicken, get one free... so I jumped at it. Got to the till and the woman put both through... no discount. So I queried it and apparently they had forgotten to remove the tags once the deal had finished... so they gave me my free chicken.
    :D

    3) Sorted out my food bank and did it at tescimos so they add in an extra 30%. Managed to buy more as well as I thought about it more so instead of soup, they got new potatoes in brine, carrots, peas, sweetcorn and rice pudding for dessert. Oh, and a tin of tuna... so I am quite pleased with the haul and hope whoever receives it will be too.
    :j

    4) I had my early xmas pressie last night. My OH bought me tickets to see nitro circus (extreme sports show) which is something I love to watch this so to see it live is amazing. I know a lot of people don't give each other xmas pressies but me and OH buy each other things that we would still buy regardless. (for example we go to a festival every year so I buy OH his ticket for his xmas, he hasn't been earning for the past two years due to studying).

    5) This is negative but also kind of a positive too... I ended up buying a t-shirt and a programme at the show. I know it is a negative but for a start I had picked out a hoodie at double the price and very almost bought it but then had that nagging feeling so bought the t-shirt instead. I know I shouldn't have bought anything but... there's no buts, I just couldn't resist.
    :(

    6) Took a packed lunch with us and had a car picnic one we arrived in glasgow. I love a good old fashioned car picnic.
    :D

Anyways... finish on a positive note... my holiday to disneyland paris was amazing.
    :o

Sorry about the long post. Will put in a different post about that thingymabobber challenge details.

Today should be a spend free day! Sort of. I managed to reverse into someone's car at the stables (I ride a friend's horse as she's pretty busy, and that way it's free! :) ) while avoiding running over dogs.

Plus side, I ran over a car not a dog. Down side, despite her car only having a scrape it's going to cost £372 to fix! I haven't technically spent this money yet, as it's not being done immediately so today is still a SFD. It's just generated a massive SD for later in the month.

I've managed to reject three of my planned evenings out though, to save cash on account of all my extra work from the end of last month now going onto fixing the car, as is the money I'll get from selling a camera lens. So on the bright side, more challenge related success! Sort of. Think stopping doing things because idiocy has cost me more than stopping them will save is not the *best* success...

Again, looking on the bright side - I'm being fairly well behaved already, so this could've hit me harder.

  • Can I be added to the list please - sorry a bit late! And I went to the Food bank Friday - grrrr. Should have waited until this week, although there are worse things to spend my money on I guess!! x
  • Shoot, sorry didn't realise you'd closed off the list. Don't worry I will use this month as my practice run and join in January! x

    * You will aim for 15 SFD's only.
    :D

    * Food budgets will be set in stone.
This is already going wrong but budget is £135... I am already OTT cause I bought some non-food stuff.

    * “Spend” Money for anything else needs to be pre-agreed prior to the commencement of DDD.
Erm... it went wrong on the 1st of the month.

    * All money needed for the month for food or spends is to be withdrawn and placed in envelopes clearly marked for purpose.
Envelopes don't work for me as I just steal from whichever one I know has money so I stick to just using the card.

    * Drop one Christmas outing/party whether with work or people you don't really like.
I am not going to do this but it is just because I only have one xmas outing and it is my new work's xmas night out. Everyone except one person is going and I want to be seen as a team player.
    :undecided

    * £5 of your food budget will be spent on the local food bank.
Done and dusted. Did it this weekend so that tescimos are giving 30% as well.
    :)

    * Batch cook now.
I do this for biscuits and some food things. I do love a good baking day.
    :D

    * Get a notebook. In it place 5 things you want to achieve by the end of 2014
Will have to have a think about this. First one is obviously pretty obvious (or else I wouldn't be on here) but others are a bit harder to decide.

    * Choose a debt free date.
The minimum calculator thing on here says it will take about 2 years to pay off my credit card at the current rate. I don't want to be in debt for two years.

    * Spending will be kept to a minimum on things that are unnecessary items.
    No problem.

    * Lunch will be brought from home everyday.
    Again, no problem.

    * NO ENTRY to any sales in the month of DDD.
oh god... the internet is soooooooo not my friend at xmas time. I will try my hardest to avoid the sales.

    1) I would like to be debt free by the end of 2014. That includes credit card (currently £3834) and bank of mum and dad (currently £670).
    2) I would like to plan a big holiday to New York... I suppose it won't be happening in 2014 as I will be debt-busting. but even planning would be nice.
    3) Not sounding awful but I would like to get engaged in 2014. OH has a ring but he wants to wait until we are more settled (i.e: he has a job).
    4) OH to get a flying job. That's his dream career and I would love to get him settled in a job he loves. (He qualified in August, there just isn't anything out there just now).
    5) Actually be prepared for stuff. My MOT is not a surprise. My nursing fees are not a surprise. My car insurance is not a surprise. So I want to have a savings account that I can actually use for these things rather than ending up in debt as I haven't prepared for it.

    Hope these are okay.
